Zaragoza Delicias is the station for AVE and other long-distance trains. Portillo, Goya and Miraflores are Cercanías stops.

Which station to use

For Madrid, Barcelona or any other long-distance journey, book Zaragoza Delicias. It is the city's high-speed station and an intermodal building with trains, buses and taxis, open daily from 05:30 to 24:00. Inside you will find ticket sales, a car park, car hire companies, shops, places to eat, a hotel and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. Early departures and late arrivals need planning around those opening hours.

Renfe runs AVE and Larga Distancia trains to Delicias. iryo also serves Zaragoza Delicias from Madrid and Barcelona, and Ouigo calls here on its Madrid, Barcelona and Tarragona services. Fares differ between the three, so price the same Delicias journey with each.

Zaragoza Portillo, Zaragoza Goya and Zaragoza Miraflores are Cercanías stations. No long-distance trains stop at them, so a search between Portillo or Goya and Madrid or Barcelona returns no long-distance trains.

Getting into the city

Delicias has a bus station and city bus stops outside the rail complex. City bus lines 34 and 51 serve the station, along with the two circular lines. Line 34 runs towards the Cementerio and line 51 towards the Pabellón Príncipe Felipe, so neither is an obvious route to the old town. A taxi is the easy option with luggage.

Cercanías C1 is the only Cercanías line in Zaragoza. From Delicias it runs to Portillo, Goya and Miraflores in that order, a few minutes between stops, and Delicias to Portillo takes about four minutes. In the other direction it runs to Utebo and Casetas. Portillo and Goya are the stops to use if your hotel is in the central districts. Goya also has a tram stop and city buses.

The four stations at a glance

Zaragoza Delicias is the primary station, with high-speed, Larga Distancia and Media Distancia trains, plus C1. It is intermodal, with city and intercity buses, a public bike system, a car park and assistance.

Zaragoza Portillo has Cercanías C1 only, is accessible and has a public bike system.

Zaragoza Goya has Cercanías C1, a tram stop, city buses, a public bike system and a bicycle park.

Zaragoza Miraflores is the C1 terminus, right after Goya, with a car park, a bicycle park and an intercity bus link. It only suits you if your accommodation or onward journey is near it.

Cercanías tickets

Pay a Cercanías one-way fare at the turnstile with a contactless bank card or mobile phone through Renfe's Cronos system, charged by the number of zones travelled. A one-zone single costs €1.80. Tap in at your departure station and tap out at your arrival station. If you miss either tap, you are charged the full network fare. From the fifth journey in a calendar month on the same card, a 40% discount applies automatically, and the count restarts at the beginning of the next month.

You can also buy tickets at station ticket offices and Cercanías machines. A one-way ticket must be used within two hours of purchase. A return ticket is valid for the same day only. An unused ticket can be cancelled only at a station ticket office, within two hours of purchase.

A contactless tap pays for Cercanías only. For AVE, iryo or Ouigo you need the ticket for the named long-distance train, with Zaragoza Delicias as the station.

Rail passes and reservations

With an Interrail pass you need a paid seat reservation on the Renfe trains that serve Delicias. Interrail lists it as compulsory on AVE, at €10 in second class and €13 in first, on Alvia and Intercity at €6.50, and on Avant and Media Distancia at €4. iryo also takes passes on domestic journeys, with a compulsory reservation at €10 or €13. Interrail names Renfe and iryo as its Spanish partners, and Ouigo is not among them. Fees are indicative and can change. Reserve through the Interrail reservation service or at the ticket desk of a Spanish long-distance station.
