Which station to use

From the station to the old town
Calle Uría runs from the station to Plaza de la Escandalera, where the old town begins, and the Cathedral stands on Plaza de Alfonso II el Casto just beyond it. TUA city bus line C stops at Uría Norte, beside the station, and runs down Calle Uría to Marqués de Santa Cruz, at the edge of the old town, from where you walk to the Cathedral. A single ticket costs €1.20.

Tickets
Long-distance tickets are sold on renfe.com and in the Renfe app until 15 minutes before departure, and at station ticket offices. The platform gate closes 2 minutes before the train leaves. For Cercanías, buy at a ticket office or self-service machine and use the ticket within two hours, or tap a contactless bank card or phone at the turnstiles on any Cercanías Asturias line. Tap in and out: skipping the second tap costs the fare for the whole network.
Rail passes and reservations
As of October 2026, Interrail pass holders need a paid reservation on the AVE (€10 in second class) and the Alvia (€6.50 in second class). Avlo is not on Interrail's reservation list, so pass holders should take the AVE or Alvia to Madrid and León. Regional and Cercanías trains, including the metre-gauge trains to Santander, Llanes and Ferrol, need no reservation.
