Segovia has two stations: Guiomar for high-speed trains, 7 km from town, and Segovia Estación for conventional trains towards Madrid.

Which Segovia station should you use?

Choose Segovia Guiomar for the fast trains from Madrid or Valladolid. It sits about 7 kilometres from central Segovia, near the Hontoria industrial area, with parking, taxis and city bus links. It is too far to walk to the aqueduct and old town.

Choose Segovia Estación for the conventional railway towards Madrid, or when arriving in the urban area matters more than speed. The two are separate stations with different services, and only Guiomar takes the high-speed network.

High-speed trains to Segovia Guiomar

The quick connection is Madrid Chamartín to Segovia Guiomar, about 30 minutes on a direct high-speed shuttle. Shuttles also link Segovia with Valladolid in about the same time, which makes Guiomar the natural stop if you are combining Segovia with Castilla y León cities rather than starting from Madrid.

For a day trip from Madrid, Guiomar is the shortest option. The first train from Madrid Chamartín leaves at 06:20 (as of 2 October 2026), early enough for a full morning in town. The train may take only half an hour, but the station is outside town, so allow time for a bus or taxi before a museum entry or timed visit. The station is open from 06:00 to 22:30, and luggage lockers are available from 06:00 to 23:30.

Conventional trains to Segovia Estación

Segovia Estación is served by Renfe's conventional regional trains on the Madrid line, which take about two hours because they stop at towns in both provinces. The journey is slower than the Guiomar shuttle, but it drops you in the urban area and suits a stay near the centre or a trip from one of the towns along the route.

It is in the urban area, so you avoid the 7 km run from Guiomar. This station only handles the conventional line towards Madrid. For Valladolid and the wider high-speed network, use Guiomar.

Getting from Guiomar into the city

Segovia's urban buses, lines 11 and 12, link the station with the centre in about 20 minutes, and you can pay the driver in cash or by card. Line 11 runs towards the Acueducto, via Avenida Gerardo Diego and Plaza de Toros. Line 12 runs towards the bus station, via Carretera de San Rafael and IES Andrés Laguna.

Take line 11 for the aqueduct side of the centre and line 12 if your hotel or onward bus is near the bus station. A taxi stop outside the station is the easier choice with heavy luggage or a late arrival. City buses are the better default for a daytime visit.

Tickets and booking

Renfe sells tickets for the high-speed and Media Distancia trains, including at the station. Fares vary by train, date and fare type. Select Segovia Guiomar for the fast Madrid journey and Segovia Estación for the conventional line.

Rail passes and reservations

The Madrid to Segovia to Valladolid shuttles are Avant trains, and a seat reservation is compulsory on them with an Interrail pass. Interrail lists the fee at €4 in second class. AVE trains cost €10 to reserve and Alvia trains €6.50. Media Distancia is also compulsory at €4, and Regional Exprés reservations are not always mandatory. Fees are indicative and can change. Reserve through the Interrail reservation service or at the ticket desk of a Spanish long-distance station.

Two things that catch people out

Guiomar is 7 km from town, so a fast train can lose its advantage if you have a fixed appointment on arrival. And lines 11 and 12 head to different parts of Segovia, so check the line number on the return trip as well.
