transN, formally Transports publics neuchâtelois, runs the regional trains and buses of Neuchâtel canton. It also operates a small funicular network in and around Neuchâtel itself.
The transN train network
transN splits its rail network into two sectors. In Littoral and Val-de-Ruz, the R15 line runs as the Littorail, connecting Neuchâtel with Boudry and Colombier along the lakeshore. In Montagnes and Val-de-Travers, lines R21, R22 and R24 serve La Chaux-de-Fonds, Le Locle and the Val-de-Travers valley.
Funiculars 110, 111 and 112 also run within and around Neuchâtel. A large regional bus network covers both sectors, feeding the train and funicular lines at most stops.
Buying a ticket
transN tickets use the ONDE VERTE zone system: a single ticket, a 6 trip multi-course card, or a day pass, each priced by the number of zones and how long it stays valid. Adult single tickets range from CHF 2.40 for a short journey or urban zone up to CHF 13.20 for six zones or more in second class; first class costs more. Reduced fares apply to children and young people aged 6 to 15.99, and to half fare card holders. Children under 6 travel free.
The multi-course card covers 6 trips for the price of 5. It's worth it if you're making the same short journey repeatedly, say a daily commute between two nearby stops. Day passes range from CHF 8.40 for the urban zone up to CHF 26.40 for six zones or more in second class.
