NStCM runs the R55 regional railway between Nyon, on Lake Geneva, and La Cure, on the French border in the Jura mountains, calling at 19 stops along the way. The line has run since 1916 and mainly serves commuters and day trippers heading into the hills above Nyon.

Route and stations

The R55 line runs from Nyon through St-Cergue to La Cure, climbing from the lakeside town of Nyon up through Genolier, St-Cergue and other Jura villages before reaching La Cure near the French border. Trains run every 15 minutes at peak times between Nyon and Genolier, the busiest stretch of the line. Ridership has grown 34 percent since 2015, and more than 1.4 million passengers rode the line in 2023.

Tickets and fares

NStCM tickets and day passes are sold under the Mobilis zone tariff, the fare system for the Vaud region. Ticket validity depends on how many zones you cross: 1 to 2 zones gives 1 hour, 3 to 7 zones gives 2 hours, and 8 to 10 zones gives 3 hours. Within that window, you can make as many trips as you like. Day passes run until 5am the following morning.

Half-fare subscription holders, children aged 6 to 16, and dog tickets qualify for the reduced Mobilis fare. Children under 6 travel free with an accompanying adult who holds a valid ticket. A SwissPass card carries Mobilis subscriptions as well as the Swiss half-fare card and general travel card (GA), both valid on NStCM, TPN buses and CFF trains. Beyond the Mobilis zones, say for a trip on to Bern, the Swiss national tariff takes over instead.

Taking a bike

A bike needs its own ticket alongside the passenger's ticket: a half-fare bike ticket, a bike day pass, or a bike passport. Bikes longer than 2 metres, such as tandems or cargo bikes, need two tickets or a bike passport. No reservation is required, but space is limited, so check availability before a busy departure.

Seasonal service

During the Paléo Festival, NStCM adds shuttle trains and night trains to carry festivalgoers. Together with TPN buses, the two companies carry close to 175,000 festival visitors to the Plaine de l'Asse each year.
