Parma's station lies just north of the historic centre, about 10 minutes on foot from Piazza Duomo and roughly 1 km in a straight line. It is the city's main station.
Arriving at Parma station
The station has eight passenger tracks, a ticket office, waiting areas, toilets and a bar. Outside you will find a bus stop, bicycle parking and bike-sharing.
Lifts and tactile paths reach all platforms. Request assistance from RFI's Sala Blu at least 12 hours before travel.
Trains to and from Parma
Parma sits on the Milan to Bologna line. Trenitalia runs Frecciarossa and Intercity services through the station, and Trenitalia regional trains connect Parma with Piacenza and Fidenza to the north-west, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Bologna Centrale to the south-east, and the Taro valley towards Fornovo and Pontremoli on the line to the Ligurian coast.
Trenord's R8 is the direct regional service from Brescia and the Lombard plain. It runs between Brescia and Parma via Piadena, Casalmaggiore, Colorno and Torrile San Polo. There is a train roughly every one to two hours in the timetable valid until 12 December 2026, and a few operate on selected dates only.
Walking to Piazza Duomo
Cross the station forecourt and take Viale Bottego towards Strada Garibaldi. Continue to Piazzale della Pace, turn left into Via Melloni, then right into Via Cavour. The first street on the left leads to Piazza Duomo. Allow about 10 minutes.
If you would rather ride, city buses leave from the lower level of the station, where ticket machines also sit. TEP line 6, for example, runs from the station via Viale Toschi and the Pilotta to Piazza Ghiaia, on the edge of the old town. The same line also serves the airport. A single ticket costs €2 and is valid for 80 minutes, and contactless bank cards are accepted on board. Winter timetables run to 5 June 2027.
Piazza Duomo is the natural place to start a first visit. Parma Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Bishop's Palace face the square, and the medieval streets around it lead on to churches and museums.
Rail passes and reservations
An Interrail Pass covers Trenitalia Frecciarossa, Intercity and regional trains. Frecciarossa and Intercity trains need a paid reservation: as of October 2026 it costs €13 on Frecciarossa and €3 on Intercity, in either class. Regional trains, including Trenord's R8, need no reservation. Parma's city buses are not part of the pass.
