Use Pisa Centrale for most trips. Choose San Rossore for the Leaning Tower only when your train stops there, and use PisaMover for the airport.
Pisa Centrale is the default station
Book Pisa Centrale for most arrivals, departures and stays in the centre. It has Pisa's broadest mix of regional and long-distance trains, and PisaMover connects it with the airport. If a booking result says only Pisa, open the journey details and confirm the station before paying.
Centrale has 16 passenger tracks, a ticket office, waiting areas, food outlets and left luggage. Check the storage hours before leaving a bag, particularly if you need to collect it for a late train. Platforms can change. Trust the station screens, not a platform saved from an earlier search.
Assistance is available for disabled passengers and passengers with reduced mobility. The lifts normally operate from 05:30 to 01:30, but a temporary fault or a height difference between the platform and train can still break a step-free route. Arrange assistance for the booked train and check the lift status before setting out.
Pisa San Rossore suits a Tower-focused visit
Choose Pisa S. Rossore when the Leaning Tower is the point of the trip and the exact train stops there. It gives you a shorter approach to Piazza dei Miracoli than Pisa Centrale, but your choice of departures is much narrower.
Selected regional trains from Centrale call at San Rossore on the way to Lucca or to La Spezia via Viareggio. That is not a rule for every northbound train. Read the intermediate stops and return departures before booking, because the next suitable service may leave later than expected.
Pisa S. Rossore is part of the passenger-assistance network. Lift faults and the match between the platform and train can affect access, so arrange help in advance and confirm that the selected service meets your needs. Use Pisa Centrale as the fallback when it does not.
PisaMover is the airport connection
Use PisaMover between Pisa Centrale and Galileo Galilei Airport. The shuttle stops once at San Giusto/Aurelia and is separate from the national rail service. The airport to railway-station journey averages about five minutes.
A single ride costs €6.50. Check the current price at the PisaMover machine or authorised sales point before paying, then scan the ticket's QR code at the gate. Trenitalia can sell PisaMover with a rail journey, but the two legs remain separate transport contracts. Leave a buffer. A missed transfer is not handled as one through rail journey.
PisaMover runs daily from 06:00 to midnight from January to May and from October to December. From June through September, it runs until 01:00. Scheduled gaps range from about six to 15 minutes, with some early and late periods operating on demand. Check the service before an early flight or late arrival.
The Tower transfer depends on luggage
Walk from Pisa Centrale through the centre to Piazza dei Miracoli when you have light luggage and time to spare. The route crosses central Pisa rather than ending just outside the station. With heavy bags, limited mobility or a short visit, the LAM Rossa bus is usually the better choice.
LAM Rossa leaves from Stazione 1 at the station terminal towards Torre and Park Pietrasantina. A standard Pisa urban ticket costs €1.70 and lasts 70 minutes after validation or activation. A ticket bought from the driver costs €3.00. Autolinee Toscane's app and local sales points show the current fare, so check before buying. On an equipped bus, you can instead use Tip Tap contactless and tap when you board.
A short Regionale ride to San Rossore can work too, but only if a suitable train is already due. Add the waiting time before deciding. The train is not automatically quicker than walking or taking the bus.
Regional trains cover the useful Tuscany routes
Trenitalia Regionale is the normal choice from Pisa for Florence, Lucca, Livorno, Viareggio and La Spezia. Standard regional tickets do not assign seats, so a busy train can still mean standing. The stopping pattern matters when you want Pisa S. Rossore rather than Centrale.
A Digital Regional Ticket validates automatically at the selected train's scheduled departure time. You can change the time until that departure, while a date change must be made by 23:59 on the previous day. Validate a paper regional ticket before boarding. Electronic and third-party products can work differently, so follow the instructions on the ticket you hold.
For Florence, compare the direct regional departures instead of assuming you need a high-speed train. For Lucca, Viareggio and La Spezia, see whether the selected service calls at San Rossore. Engineering work can alter trains, platforms or part of the route. Review the live journey on the day.
Intercity trains handle many longer journeys
Trenitalia Intercity gives Pisa direct links along the Tyrrhenian corridor, including trains towards Rome, Genoa and Milan. Confirm that the selected Intercity runs on your travel date. An Intercity ticket comes with an assigned seat for a specific train, so confirm the train number and fare conditions before boarding.
Expect a change on an Italo journey to Pisa. Italo sells combined journeys using its high-speed train to Florence and a Trenitalia regional train for the final leg. This does not mean an Italo high-speed train calls at Pisa Centrale. Check the operator on each leg and the connection terms before paying.
Choose a seller for its fare conditions and after-sales help, not because its name appears beside the journey. The operator controls the service on board. The fare or seller controls what you can change after booking.
Before paying, check the station name and operator, then read the instructions on the ticket. That catches a San Rossore train that skips the stop and a PisaMover leg that is not operated by Trenitalia.

Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I request assistance at Pisa Centrale?
For phone or in-person requests, book at least one hour before a service between 07:45 and 22:30, or 12 hours before a service between 22:31 and 07:44. Email, SalaBlu Online and the SalaBlu+ app use different cut-offs.
Do young children need a PisaMover ticket?
One child no taller than one metre travels free with each adult who has a valid ticket. Any additional child with the same adult needs the ordinary fare, even when the child is under that height.
Is luggage free on PisaMover?
Yes. You may carry suitcases without an extra charge, but you must load and unload them yourself and keep them clear of seats and passageways. Staff can refuse luggage when the shuttle is too crowded to carry it safely.
Can one contactless card pay for several people on a Pisa bus?
No. Tip Tap issues one ticket per card or enabled device. Use the at bus app for several passengers, or use a different linked device for each person.
Can I take a bicycle on PisaMover?
Yes. Each passenger may take one standard single-seat bicycle and must secure it in the marked space with the dedicated fixing device. Keep the bicycle with you throughout the trip.
