Aix-en-Provence has two stations. Aix-en-Provence TGV is where the high-speed trains stop, about 15 km from the centre, so you need the A2 shuttle or a taxi to reach town. Aix-en-Provence Centre is the small city station at Place Gustave Desplaces, a short walk from the Cours Mirabeau, and it is the one to use when you arrive from Marseille by regional train.
Which station should you use?
Choose Aix-en-Provence TGV for direct high-speed trains to and from Paris, including TGV INOUI and OUIGO. Direct trains to Paris Gare de Lyon take about 3 hours to 3 hours 10 minutes. Some OUIGO trains end at Marne-la-Vallée Chessy instead. Trains to Marseille Saint-Charles take about 12 to 15 minutes.
Choose Aix-en-Provence Centre when you are coming from Marseille or from towns north of Aix such as Manosque and Sisteron. It is served by TER regional trains, not by TGV. Direct TER trains to and from Marseille Saint-Charles take about 40 to 45 minutes. They run about every 30 minutes for most of the day and more often at peak times, with fewer trains in the late morning.
Getting from Aix-en-Provence TGV into town
The A2 shuttle runs all year, every day, from about 05:45 until after midnight, with departures roughly every 15 minutes during the daytime. Follow the A2 signs at level -1 of concourse A and board the bus towards Aix-en-Provence Gare Routière, about 22 to 28 minutes away. A single ticket costs €6 and a return €9.60. Contactless payment on board is for single tickets only, and there are ticket machines at the station.
The Gare Routière is the city-centre bus station, about a 10-minute walk from Aix-en-Provence Centre station.
From Aix-en-Provence Centre into town
From Aix-en-Provence Centre you can walk to the Cours Mirabeau in a few minutes. City buses A, 4, M2 and 08 stop at Gare SNCF in front of the station, and lines 6, 7, 10, 11, 17, 24 and 25 stop at the nearby Gare routière Belges. The small electric Diabline buses serve the pedestrian centre from Monday to Saturday. A single ticket costs €1.30 and you can pay by contactless card.
Tickets and local transfers
Book your train to the station you actually need. A ticket to Aix-en-Provence TGV does not put you in the city, and a TER ticket to Aix-en-Provence Centre will not take you to the high-speed station. The A2 and the Diabline each use their own local fares.
Rail passes and reservations
An Interrail or Eurail pass covers eligible rail travel in France, but high-speed trains need a reservation. As of October 2026, TGV INOUI reservations cost €10 to €20 in either class, and OUIGO high-speed reservations cost €10 to €20 in a single travel class. Trenitalia Frecciarossa trains that stop at Aix-en-Provence TGV need a €10 reservation, and Renfe AVE trains cost €10 in Elige or €13 in Elige Confort. The TER trains serving Aix-en-Provence Centre need no reservation. A pass does not cover the A2 shuttle, city buses or the Diabline.
Other connections at the TGV station
The A2 also runs from the TGV station to Marseille Provence Airport. ZOU! regional coaches 66 and 93 also stop at the TGV station, with services towards Digne and Brignoles as well as the airport.
