Chamonix Mont Blanc is the station for the town centre. Les Praz-de-Chamonix, Les Bossons and Les Pélerins are smaller stops on the same line, worth using only when your hotel, campsite or activity is beside one of them. No long-distance train runs into the valley: every train that calls at these four stations is the TER Mont Blanc Express, and services from Paris, Lyon, Annecy and Geneva connect with it at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Le Fayet.

Getting to Chamonix by train

The Mont Blanc Express starts at Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Le Fayet, the main-line station for trains from Annecy, Lyon and Paris. Paris to Le Fayet takes about 5 hours 40 minutes with at least one change on the way, and Léman Express line L3 runs from Geneva to Le Fayet via Annemasse in about 1 hour 45 minutes. Change at Le Fayet for Chamonix Mont Blanc, about 45 minutes further on. Through the day the Mont Blanc Express runs about once an hour in each direction. The last train up from Le Fayet leaves at 8.28pm and the last one down from Chamonix Mont Blanc at 7.55pm. Late coaches leave Le Fayet for Chamonix Mont Blanc at 11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday, with an earlier one at 10.56pm on Fridays and Sundays. None runs on Saturdays.

Which station should you use?

Use Chamonix Mont Blanc for the town centre. It is at Place de la Gare, the station building is open daily from 7am to 8pm, and ticket sales hours vary through the year. The Chamonix Sud bus station, where lines 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10 stop, is linked to the Gare de Chamonix bus stop by Chamonix Mobilité line 10.

Les Praz-de-Chamonix is the stop for Les Praz village and the La Flégère cable car, about 4 minutes from Chamonix Mont Blanc on the line towards Vallorcine. Les Pélerins and Les Bossons are on the line towards Le Fayet, about 6 and 9 minutes from Chamonix Mont Blanc. Every Mont Blanc Express train between Le Fayet and Chamonix Mont Blanc stops at both.

Getting into Chamonix from the outlying stops

From the three smaller stops the train takes only a few minutes, but it runs just once an hour. Guests staying in the valley ride it free between Servoz and Vallorcine with the guest card their accommodation hands over on arrival. Chamonix Mobilité buses run more often. Line 1 calls at the Les Bossons bus stop, Chamonix Sud, Chamonix Centre and Les Praz Flégère, the stop that connects with Les Praz-de-Chamonix station. Line 2 calls at the Les Pélerins bus stop, the same two central stops and Les Praz Flégère. Until 18 December 2026 both lines run about every 30 minutes from Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sundays and public holidays.

A single Chamonix Mobilité ticket costs €1.70 at a terminal or online, €2.20 by card on the bus or at the bus station desk, and €2.70 in cash. It is valid for one hour. In the evening, the Chamo'nuit buses run from 8.35pm until 2.29am, and some time slots must be booked in advance. Chamo'nuit has its own single ticket, at €4.50 by card or €5 in cash.

Mont Blanc Express beyond Chamonix

Beyond Chamonix Mont Blanc the line follows the valley through Les Praz-de-Chamonix, Argentière and Vallorcine, then crosses into Switzerland for Martigny. SNCF runs the French section and TMR the Swiss one, with a change of train at Vallorcine. Trains leave Chamonix Mont Blanc for Vallorcine about once an hour and take about 33 minutes. The Mont Blanc Express runs all year, and the times on this page apply until 12 December 2026.

From 28 September to 6 November 2026, engineering works replace the trains with coaches between Chamonix Mont Blanc and Le Châtelard Frontière, on the Swiss border. That takes in Argentière and Vallorcine, and it leaves Les Praz-de-Chamonix with no trains until the works end. The coaches run about once an hour and call at Les Praz-de-Chamonix. Trains between Le Fayet and Chamonix Mont Blanc are not affected.

Rail passes and reservations

An Interrail or Eurail pass is valid on the whole Mont Blanc Express, from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Le Fayet through Chamonix Mont Blanc to Martigny. The French section is an SNCF TER regional train and the Swiss section is run by TMR. Neither needs a reservation, so there is no fee to pay as of October 2026. A Swiss Travel Pass is valid only between Martigny and Le Châtelard Frontière, so you need a ticket for the French side. Rail passes do not cover Chamonix Mobilité buses, so buy a local ticket for those.
