Use Grenoble station for Paris, Lyon, Geneva and the Alps. It is on the west side of the centre, with the tram stop and the coach station outside.
Which station to use
Grenoble station is the main station and the only one where long-distance trains stop: TGV INOUI from Paris, TER to Lyon, and the direct TER to Chambéry, Annecy, Geneva and Valence all call here. Grenoble Universités Gières is served by TER only. It suits the Saint-Martin-d'Hères campus and the east of the city, but the Paris and Lyon trains do not stop there, so do not book it by mistake.
From Grenoble station into the centre
The tram is the quickest way in. The stop at the station is called Gares. Trams A, B and D all run from it to Victor Hugo, in the centre, two stops away. Trams run from 04:30 to 01:00, every 4 to 10 minutes at peak times. A single M réso ticket costs €2.00 and is valid for 1 hour on all lines. Buy it from the machines at tram stops or in the M réso app; on the bus the driver sells it for €2.60.
The Bastille cable car leaves from Quai Stéphane Jay by the Jardin de Ville, a 13-minute walk from the station, every 5 to 10 minutes. In November and December it opens at 11:00 Wednesday to Sunday (also Tuesdays in December) and runs to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays; a single costs €6.60 and a return €9.80.

Grenoble Universités Gières
Most TER between Grenoble and Chambéry, and the direct Annecy and Geneva trains, stop here, about 10 minutes from Grenoble station. Tram B leaves from the Gières Gare Université stop by the station and takes about 10 minutes to Université Bibliothèques on the campus. Tram B also runs on to Gares and Victor Hugo, so it links the station to the centre without a change.
Airport and the mountains
For Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, the TGV INOUI trains to Paris stop at the airport station. Coaches by FlixBus and BlaBlaCar Bus also run between the airport and Grenoble's coach station on Place de la Gare, in 55 to 65 minutes.
No train runs to the ski resorts around Grenoble, such as Chamrousse. M réso coach N93 to Chamrousse leaves from Grenoble Gare Routière. From 17 December 2026 to 29 March 2027 a OUIGO ski train runs once a day each way (on weekdays from 18 to 29 January 2027 the morning train from Paris does not stop at Grenoble) between Paris Gare de Lyon and Bourg-Saint-Maurice, calling at Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV and Grenoble. It reaches Grenoble at about 13:55 and leaves at about 19:55, arriving in Paris at 22:56.
Rail passes and reservations
As of November 2026, TGV INOUI needs a paid seat reservation with an Interrail pass, and Interrail lists the fee at €10 to €20. The winter OUIGO needs a reservation too, which Interrail lists at €10 to €20. Regional trains need no reservation. A One Country Pass France cannot be used for travel into Switzerland, so the Geneva trains need a Global Pass.
Works
On Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 November 2026, coaches replace all trains between Grenoble and Chambéry (including the direct Annecy and Geneva trains and the stop at Grenoble Universités Gières) and between Grenoble and Gap. The TGV INOUI to Paris and the TER to Lyon run as normal.
