What WKD is

Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa, generally shortened to WKD, operates a dedicated commuter railway in the southwest of the Warsaw agglomeration, running through Warsaw's Ochota and Włochy districts and the municipalities of Michałowice, Pruszków, Brwinów, Podkowa Leśna, Milanówek and Grodzisk Mazowiecki. WKD is a distinct company from Warsaw's own Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) and from the regional operator Koleje Mazowieckie, and it runs its own separate ticket tariff rather than sharing one with either.

The WKD network

WKD manages three railway lines. Line 47, the main double-track corridor, runs 32.64 km between Warszawa Śródmieście WKD and Grodzisk Mazowiecki Radońska. Line 48 is a short single-track branch of 1.9 km between Podkowa Leśna Główna and Milanówek Grudów. Line 512 is a 3.165 km single-track technical link connecting the WKD network to the national rail network managed by PKP PLK, at Pruszków and Komorów. It is the only physical connection between WKD and the rest of Poland's railways. The network has 28 stations and stops, and the WKD lines used for regular passenger service are fully electrified at 3000V DC.

Trains

WKD's fleet includes the EN95, EN97 and EN100 electric multiple units. All three series are fitted with automatic ventilation and air conditioning, passenger-area monitoring, and features supporting passengers with reduced mobility and bicycle carriage; the single EN95 unit also carries wi-fi.

Tickets and fares

WKD tickets are priced in Polish złoty (PLN) by time zone rather than by distance, timed from when the ticket is validated on board. A full-fare single ticket costs PLN 4.10 in Zone I, journeys up to 19 minutes; PLN 6.30 in Zone II, up to 38 minutes; and PLN 9.20 in Zone III, for anything longer. Statutory and commercial discounts of between 33 and 100 percent apply to these fares. Tickets can only be bought from a WKD ticket office, a WKD vending machine, the WKD mobile app or the WKD website; tickets from other operators are not valid on WKD trains outside the specific arrangement below.

On the Warszawa Śródmieście WKD to Opacz section only, WKD honors a defined set of ZTM tickets under the Wspólny Bilet ZTM-KM-WKD (Joint Ticket) offer, including 30 and 90-day passes coded on the Warsaw City Card, daily, 3-day, weekend, weekend group, senior and large-family tickets. Short 20-minute and transfer-based ZTM tickets (75 and 90-minute) are not honored on WKD trains anywhere on the network. Only a single fare zone applies on the section covered by the joint offer, and passengers travelling beyond it need a separate WKD ticket for the remainder of the journey.
