Koleje Śląskie

Koleje Śląskie is the regional passenger railway of the Silesian Voivodeship, the region's first non-state passenger operator since 1884. It was founded on 8 April 2010 and began carrying passengers on 1 October 2011, initially on the Gliwice to Częstochowa line, with a weekend service extending to Wisła Głębce. The Silesian Voivodeship owns the company outright, and it is headquartered in Katowice.

Network and scale

The company runs 21 regular lines plus 4 seasonal ones, carrying close to 22 million passengers in 2024. S-line routes include S1 between Dąbrowa Górnicza and Gliwice, S4 between Tychy and Katowice, S5 between Bielsko-Biała and Katowice, and S6 between Czechowice-Dziedzice and Skoczów, with S61 continuing on to Cieszyn. S7 and S71 services link Katowice with Leszczyny and Mikołów. Together they connect the Katowice conurbation with towns further south toward the Beskidy mountains.

Fleet and tickets

The operator is replacing older rolling stock with new Impuls 2 trains built by Newag. Nine are already in service, and the fleet is due to reach 35 by the end of 2027. Buy tickets through the operator's own online shop or the Kaeśka mobile app; both price in PLN, and the app currently gives a 10% discount on purchases made through it.

Seasonal and leisure services

Koleje Śląskie also runs a seasonal Beskidy sightseeing programme, Kolej na Beskidy, pairing a train ticket with a licensed PTTK guide for a handful of scheduled excursions between May and October.

Practical notes

A helpline is available daily from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm for passenger queries. Some lines can change at short notice, so check current disruption notices before you travel.
