Tåg i Bergslagen runs regional trains across Dalarna, Gävleborg, Västmanland and Örebro counties, and some services also reach stations outside them. VR Sverige AB has crewed the trains under contract since December 2023.

Lines and stations

Four routes make up the network: Gävle to Mjölby, Morastrand to Sala, Ludvika to Västerås and Gävle to Örebro. The Gävle to Mjölby route serves Sandviken, Falun, Borlänge, Ludvika, Örebro, Hallsberg and Motala, among other stations. Morastrand to Sala calls at Mora, Rättvik, Tällberg, Leksand, Borlänge, Hedemora and Avesta. Ludvika to Västerås calls at Fagersta, Ängelsberg, Virsbo and Surahammar. Gävle to Örebro stops at Storvik, Avesta Krylbo, Fagersta and Frövi.

Tickets and travel cards

You need a ticket before you board. The Tåg i Bergslagen website sells tickets for its own trains and for other operators, and the standard single is also sold at Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven. That single, the TiB Enkelbiljett, is valid for the route and departure printed on it and can cover a later departure when there is a disruption. Its price is fixed by distance, so buying on the day costs the same as buying weeks ahead. Under-20s and students pay 25% less, and a paying passenger can bring two children up to 12 free.

On a journey within one county, the local transport company's ticket can be valid on the train. County tickets come from Dalatrafik, Länstrafiken Örebro, VL, X-trafik or Mälardalstrafik. Frequent travellers across the whole network can buy the Bergslagskortet, an adult plastic card covering every Tåg i Bergslagen departure for 30 or 365 days. Dalatrafik sells it, and it does not cover buses or connecting county services. A trip that combines several operators in one booking is sold as Resplus.

On board

Seats cannot be reserved and are available as space allows. Trains are either Regina units or double-deck ER1 units. Many trains have a kiosk that takes cards only, and ER1 units have none. Free wifi is available on every train, and each has a quiet compartment and a space for a wheelchair. Each passenger may carry two bags (up to 80 x 50 x 35 cm and 20 kg each) plus one small piece of hand luggage, and staff cannot help with lifting.
