Frequently asked questions

Does Eurostar go from London to Venice?

Eurostar runs from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord, but does not go to Venice. From Paris, you continue on a separate train to Venice: either a daytime Frecciarossa or TGV to Turin or Milan, then onward to Venice the next morning, or an ÖBB Nightjet sleeper via Stuttgart that arrives in Venice at around 08:34. The full London-to-Venice journey always requires at least two changes.

Is there a direct night train from London to Venice?

No direct night train runs from London to Venice. The old Thello sleeper between Paris and Venice was discontinued permanently in 2021. The current overnight option uses the ÖBB Nightjet, but this runs from Stuttgart, not Paris. The route is: Eurostar from London to Paris, a short walk from Gare du Nord to Gare de l'Est, TGV to Stuttgart, then the Nightjet to Venice Santa Lucia, arriving at around 08:34.

How long does the London to Venice train take?

It depends on the route. With the daytime option and an overnight stop in Turin or Milan, the journey spans two days. The ÖBB Nightjet overnight option takes roughly 22 hours from London to Venice (departing in the morning, sleeping on the train, and arriving the following morning). A same-day journey is technically possible on weekdays with an early Eurostar and specific timed connections, but it is tight and a missed connection means an overnight delay.

How much does the London to Venice train cost?

Each leg is booked separately, so there is no single through-fare. Typical advance prices are: Eurostar London to Paris from around £35 (Standard), Frecciarossa or TGV Paris to Turin or Milan from around €29, and Milan or Turin to Venice from around €10-€25. For the ÖBB Nightjet overnight option, Sparschiene advance fares start from around €29 for a seat, €39 for a couchette, and €79 for a sleeper. Prices vary significantly by date and availability.

Do I need to change stations in Paris?

Yes, and which station you change to depends on your route. For the daytime Frecciarossa or TGV to Italy, transfer from Gare du Nord (where Eurostar arrives) to Gare de Lyon, about 4 km across the city. Allow at least 60 minutes. For the ÖBB Nightjet route via Stuttgart, transfer from Gare du Nord to Gare de l'Est, a 7-minute walk of about 500 metres. These are two completely different transfers, so confirm your route before you travel.

Can I use an Interrail Pass from London to Venice by train?

Yes, but mandatory reservations are required on every leg. The most important thing to know is that the Eurostar reservation for Interrail pass holders must be booked at eurostar.com. Station windows cannot sell it, and places are limited. You will also need reservations for the Frecciarossa or TGV, and for the ÖBB Nightjet if you are taking the overnight route. Book your Eurostar reservation first and as early as possible, especially in summer.
