Paris is where the itinerary can fall apart. Eurostar arrives at Gare du Nord; the Barcelona train leaves from Gare de Lyon, around 5 km across the city.

The Best Route from London to Seville

The route has three legs: Eurostar from London to Paris, TGV INOUI from Paris to Barcelona, then Renfe from Barcelona to Sevilla Santa Justa.

The overnight stop in Barcelona is not a detour. It protects your Paris-Spain connection and gives you more choice on the final leg.

London to Paris by Eurostar

Depart from London St Pancras International. Eurostar takes around 2 hours 16 minutes to Paris Gare du Nord on the fastest service.

Arrive at St Pancras at least 30 minutes before your booked departure, and earlier if you are not familiar with the check-in process. Before boarding, you clear UK border control, security, and French immigration. It is an international departure with more steps than a domestic train. Bring your passport. Eurostar requires passenger details to be registered in advance; check the requirements on the Eurostar website before you travel.

Paris to Barcelona by TGV INOUI

Transfer from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon. The Metro takes about 20 to 25 minutes on line 5. Allow at least 60 to 90 minutes total for the transfer: exit Eurostar, validate a Metro ticket, make the crossing, and find the right departure hall at Gare de Lyon before the TGV boards. The station has two main halls; give yourself time to find the correct one.

The direct TGV INOUI to Barcelona Sants runs in around 6 hours 30 to 6 hours 50 minutes. This is a joint SNCF and Renfe operation. Booking platforms may label it TGV INOUI, AVE, or both.

There are typically a morning and an afternoon direct departure from Paris to Barcelona, often around two to four services a day with more in summer. That limited frequency is what makes this leg the bottleneck. Miss the afternoon train because of a disrupted Eurostar, and your next option may be the following morning. Advance fares from Paris to Barcelona start from around €49. For summer travel or busy weekends, book 2 to 3 months ahead. Seats on this service go quickly.

Barcelona to Seville by Renfe

From Barcelona Sants, continue to Sevilla Santa Justa with Renfe. Services run on AVE and Avlo, Renfe’s high-speed trains, and some long-distance trains. The fastest direct services cover the leg in around 5 and a half hours.

Avlo is Renfe’s low-cost brand. Fares can be much cheaper than AVE, but the ticket is non-flexible, check-in is online only, and luggage rules are tighter. If your plans are fixed and you want to save money, Avlo works well. If there is any chance you need to change, book AVE instead.

The easiest way to split this journey is to arrive in Barcelona from Paris in the evening, sleep near Sants, and take a morning or early afternoon train to Seville the next day. There are more Barcelona-Seville departures spread across the day than you might expect.

The Madrid Routing Option

If the direct Barcelona-Seville service is sold out or badly timed, route via Madrid. Barcelona-Madrid has frequent high-speed services all day, and Renfe runs AVE and Avlo trains from Madrid Puerta de Atocha Almudena Grandes to Sevilla Santa Justa, with departures roughly every couple of hours through the day.

The Madrid routing adds another change and lengthens the journey. Use it as a fallback when direct Barcelona-Seville seats are unavailable or expensive, not as a first choice.

Journey Time and Changes

Route examples put London to Seville at roughly 23 to 28 hours. The comfortable version is always two days.

That range accounts for more than train speed. Eurostar check-in and border formalities add time at the London end. The Paris transfer between two stations adds at least an hour. Connection buffers add more. And the overnight gap in Barcelona turns what would be an exhausting single push into a manageable itinerary.

Same-day itineraries do appear in booking engines on specific dates. They are rarely worth planning around. A tight same-day connection leaves you with almost no margin if Eurostar or the Paris-Barcelona train is delayed.

• Find a Eurostar that gets you to Paris with enough time for the transfer.

• Choose the Barcelona-Seville leg that fits your overnight.

• Only commit to all legs once the chain works.

If you prefer a single booking in English, resellers like Rail Europe or Trainline can package multiple legs. If you want more control over fare rules and disruption handling, book directly with each operator.

Interrail and Eurail Passes

A pass covers all three legs of this route, but you still need paid reservations on each one. A pass does not make this journey spontaneous.

Eurostar charges pass holders a separate reservation fee on top of the pass. For London departures this is around £35 in Standard and £40 in Plus. These fees are set by Eurostar and can change, and passholder places are sold in Standard and Plus rather than Premier. Check the current rate on Eurostar.com or Interrail.eu before you book.

Passholder places on Eurostar are limited. If your preferred departure is fully booked for pass holders, you will need either a full-price Eurostar ticket or a different travel date. Check Eurostar availability before you lock in the Spain legs.

For the Paris-Barcelona TGV INOUI and the Spanish high-speed trains, Interrail and Eurail holders pay separate seat reservation fees on top of the pass. Book these early in summer or around school holidays. Pass-holder quota runs out well before general seats do.

If you are buying a pass mainly to cover the Spanish domestic legs, compare the total cost, including Eurostar and Paris-Barcelona supplements, against booking those legs individually as standard tickets.

The Paris transfer is the most important thing to plan correctly. Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon are around 5 km apart. Metro line 5 connects them in about 20 to 25 minutes. But you need to exit the Eurostar terminal, pass through the main station concourse, buy or validate a Metro ticket, make the journey, and arrive at Gare de Lyon early enough to find the right departure hall. The station has two main halls. Allow time to find the correct one. Budget at least 60 minutes for the transfer; 90 is safer with luggage.

Barcelona Sants is easier. The TGV INOUI from Paris arrives there, and trains for Seville and Madrid depart from the same station. If you are overnighting, the area around Sants has plenty of accommodation within walking distance of the platforms.

Train or Flight from London to Seville

The train is the right choice if you want to avoid flying, include a night in Barcelona, connect Seville into a wider European itinerary, or use a rail pass. It is not the right choice if you need the fastest possible journey from London to Seville. Flights are faster.

The best version of this trip is a deliberate two-day journey: morning Eurostar, afternoon crossing of France, a night in Barcelona, then a morning departure to Seville. For many travellers, that is the attraction.

New low-cost competition is also arriving on routes into Paris from late 2026. GoVolta is launching a daily Amsterdam to Paris service via Antwerp and Ghent, which broadens the options for reaching Paris by rail. If the cost of getting to Paris is the main friction point on your trip, it may be worth checking what alternatives are available closer to your travel date.

Booking Tips

Book the Paris-Barcelona TGV first. Everything else follows from that.

Once you have that leg confirmed, find a Eurostar that gives you a comfortable Paris transfer. Ideally allow 90 minutes or more between Eurostar arrival at Gare du Nord and TGV departure from Gare de Lyon. Then pick the Barcelona-Seville leg that fits your overnight.

A few things to check before you commit:

• Whether your Paris connection is realistic (at least 60 minutes between arrival and departure, ideally more).

• Whether Avlo or AVE is right for the Barcelona-Seville leg. Avlo is cheaper but non-flexible; AVE costs more but can usually be changed.

• Whether your ticket is refundable or changeable before you pay.

• Whether Interrail or Eurail passholder reservations are available on your chosen Eurostar before you book hotels.

• Whether major Spanish holidays fall around your dates. Feria de Abril and Semana Santa in Seville, and Spanish national public holidays, put serious pressure on domestic high-speed seats. Book the Spanish legs early for those windows.
