Direct trains take about 3 hours 50 minutes
The direct trains from Brest to Paris Montparnasse take between 3 hours 47 minutes and about 4 hours 10 minutes, depending on the train. Most come in at 3h50 to 3h54. They call at Morlaix, Guingamp, Saint-Brieuc, Lamballe and Rennes on the way, and all arrive in Paris at Montparnasse.
If you see a journey of 4h26 or longer, it is a trip with a change, not a slower direct train. Times shift a little with the day of the week and with engineering works in Brittany, so check your own date before you plan the rest of the day around an arrival.
How often trains run and when the first and last leave
There are around ten departures a day from Brest to Paris, and about seven of them are direct. Direct trains are spread from early morning to mid-afternoon, and the first one leaves at 05:17 and reaches Paris at 09:11.
The last direct train leaves in the middle of the afternoon, so do not count on an evening direct. Later departures need a change at Rennes, sometimes with only 10 minutes between trains. Weekday and weekend timetables differ, so read the times for your date.
Who runs the trains
TGV INOUI is SNCF's main high-speed service, and it runs nearly all the direct trains on this route. It is the better choice if you want a flexible fare, as ticket conditions vary by fare type.
Ouigo is SNCF's low-cost brand. One direct Ouigo a day leaves Brest in the late morning, at about 11:15, and reaches Paris Montparnasse in around 3h50. Adult fares start from €19, children aged 4 to 11 pay from €8, and the price depends on the date. A small bag and a cabin bag are included, and larger luggage costs extra. Changing a booking costs extra too.
A few trips combine a TER regional train with a TGV INOUI or Ouigo and change at Rennes. The connection can be as short as 10 minutes, so these are the ones to avoid if you travel with luggage or have a fixed arrival.
Brest station and getting there
The station is Brest, on Place du 19e Régiment d'Infanterie, a few hundred metres from Brest Castle. Tram line B and the Bibus bus network serve it, with bus stops at Kennedy Gare and Gambetta Gare.
For the 05:17 departure, check local bus and tram times for that hour before you book.
In Paris, trains arrive at Paris Montparnasse, Hall 1 and 2. For a Eurostar from Gare du Nord or a train from Gare de Lyon, allow time to cross the city by metro.
Tickets, reservations and rail passes
A seat reservation is compulsory on TGV INOUI and Ouigo, and an ordinary ticket includes it. Fares move with demand, so the cheapest tickets sell out first. Book early for Fridays, Sundays and school holidays.
With an Interrail or Eurail pass you cannot just board. You still need a seat reservation on TGV INOUI, and the reservation fee is separate from the pass. It costs €10 to €20 in either class, on top of your pass. Ouigo high-speed trains take pass holders too, with the same €10 to €20 reservation fee. The pass, the reservation fee and any supplement are three separate costs. Compare the total with a normal advance ticket, because a pass day can cost more than a cheap Ouigo.
Buy tickets in euros on SNCF Connect or Ouigo, and check the conditions for your fare before you pay.
