Every other hour you change at Leamington Spa, which takes about 2 hours 10 minutes; in the hours between you change at Dorridge onto a West Midlands Railway train, which takes about 2 hours 40 minutes. On Sundays every change is at Leamington Spa. The last connection leaves Marylebone at 20:36 on weekdays, 20:02 on Saturday (change at Birmingham Moor Street) and 18:00 on Sunday. Christmas and New Year

No planned engineering works affect either line to Stratford-upon-Avon in November or up to 12 December 2026. On 24 December the last train from Birmingham Moor Street leaves at 18:39, and no trains run on 25 or 26 December. On 27 and 28 December buses replace Chiltern trains between Leamington Spa and Stratford-upon-Avon, while West Midlands Railway trains from Birmingham run as normal (a Sunday service on the 27th). On 1 January the Birmingham trains run from 08:39 to 19:39. Chiltern has said more changes are coming between 13 December 2026 and 10 January 2027, so look up your train again in December.

Tickets

Advance tickets are for one named train and go on sale up to 12 weeks ahead, until 23:59 the day before travel. Off-Peak tickets cost less than Anytime but are not valid on the busiest trains; the times depend on the journey and are shown when you buy. Anytime tickets are valid on any train that day. Chiltern's Advance singles start at £6.40 from London Marylebone, with a change at Leamington Spa. From Birmingham Moor Street an Off-Peak Day Single costs £10.60 and is valid on both operators. A Railcard takes a third off most tickets and costs £35 a year. Buy before you board: West Midlands Railway and Chiltern both charge a penalty fare of £100 plus the full single fare, cut to £50 plus the fare if you pay within 21 days.

Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, an Interrail pass covers Chiltern Railways and West Midlands Railway, the two operators at Stratford-upon-Avon, and Interrail lists both as needing no reservation. That includes the Leamington Spa trains and the late train to Marylebone. You need only an activated travel day, with no reservation fee.

Traps to avoid

Do not expect a through train from London: change at Leamington Spa or Dorridge. On Sundays the last connection from Marylebone leaves at 18:00 and the last train to Birmingham leaves Stratford-upon-Avon at 19:26, so plan an evening at the theatre around them. Stratford-upon-Avon Parkway is a different station on the edge of town, so get off at Stratford-upon-Avon for the centre.
