London Northwestern Railway is one of two train brands under West Midlands Trains, alongside West Midlands Railway. It runs from London Euston north to Birmingham, Liverpool, Northampton, Rugby, Milton Keynes, Watford and Crewe. Two branch services round out the network: the Marston Vale Line and the Abbey Line.
Those two branches serve smaller towns off the main Euston corridor, and each keeps its own timetable and connections, separate from the main line.
Tickets and fares
Fares come in five main types. Advance is cheapest, tied to a specific train and best booked ahead. Off-Peak costs more but works on any train outside peak hours, and can be refunded. Anytime buys full flexibility at any hour. Season and Flexi Season suit regular commuters; Flexi Season covers 8 days of travel in any 28-day period. Railcards apply to most of these and cut the price further.
Group travel has its own pricing. Parties of 3 to 9 save up to a third booking online through GroupSave. Groups of 10 or more save up to 26% with dedicated support. A London Travelcard covers unlimited travel across Zones 1 to 6 on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, Overground and National Rail, handy if your trip ends inside London.
Bikes, mobility scooters and luggage
Bikes travel free, with no reservation needed. Space is first come, first served, though a quiet train may take more than one. Full-size bikes cannot travel on trains arriving at Euston between 07:00 and 09:59, or on those leaving between 16:00 and 18:59, Monday to Friday. Folding bikes are exempt from that rule at any time. E-bikes are allowed too, capped at 250 watts with no assistance above 15.5 mph.
Mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs are welcome on board if they meet the operator's size and weight rules. E-scooters are banned outright, on trains and at stations, over fire-safety concerns with their batteries.
