Brussels to Paris by train

Eurostar runs direct high-speed trains between Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Paris Gare du Nord in as little as 1 hour 22 minutes. Up to 22 direct departures run each day. Advance Standard class fares start from around €29, though prices vary by date and how far ahead you book. If you’re open to stops and a longer journey, Ouigo Classic offers lower fares via three intermediate stations.

One thing most European trains don’t require: arriving early. Eurostar operates passport control and a security scan at Brussels-Midi. The check-in desk closes 30 minutes before departure and does not reopen. Miss it and you miss your train, regardless of whether your ticket is valid.

Both Brussels and Paris have several stations. The direct Eurostar uses Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Paris Gare du Nord, and only these. If a booking page shows just “Brussels” or “Paris”, open the train details and confirm the station before you pay. Booking the wrong station is one of the most common and most expensive mistakes on this route.

Ticket classes on the Brussels to Paris Eurostar

Eurostar offers two main classes on this route: Standard and Business Premier. Some departures also carry Standard Premier, which sits between the two.

Standard is the right choice for most travellers. Seats are 2+2, with free Wi-Fi and a power outlet at every seat. The onboard café-bar sells food and drinks. Luggage allowance covers two large items (up to 85 cm in any dimension) plus one piece of hand luggage. You can exchange a Standard ticket free of charge up to 1 hour before departure. Refunds are possible up to 7 days before travel, with a fee of €25 per person.

Standard Premier gives you 2+1 seating, more legroom, and an included at-seat meal. It’s the middle tier. Exchange and refund conditions broadly match Standard, though check at booking.

Business Premier is the top class. Also 2+1 seating, with a four-course meal and champagne included. Lounge access at Brussels-Midi and Paris Gare du Nord, fast-track security, and fully flexible tickets with no fees for changes or cancellations. Guaranteed boarding is included: if you miss your booked train, you can take the next one at no charge.

Children aged 4 to 11 qualify for a 50% discount on Standard and Standard Premier fares. Under-4s travel free on an adult’s lap. No child discount on Business Premier.

Interrail and Eurail passes on this route

Interrail and Eurail passes are valid on Eurostar between Brussels and Paris. A seat reservation is mandatory. You cannot board without one.

The reservation fee is around €27 per person for Standard class and around €32 for Standard Premier. Business Premier reservations cost more; check with Eurostar directly or through your pass platform. A small booking service fee may apply depending on the channel you use.

Book the reservation early. Eurostar limits the number of pass-holder seats on each departure. Summer trains and bank holiday departures can fill pass-holder allocations weeks in advance. Don’t leave it until the week before.

Train companies on this route

Eurostar runs the direct Brussels to Paris service. Thalys previously operated a competing route between the two cities, but merged into Eurostar in 2023. There is no longer a separate Thalys brand. All services now run under the Eurostar name.

Ouigo Classic, an SNCF low-cost brand, launched a Brussels to Paris service in December 2024. It stops at Mons in Belgium and Aulnoye and Creil in France before arriving at Paris Gare du Nord. Journey time is around 2 hours 53 minutes. The fares are lower, but you add around 90 minutes to your journey and have fewer departure times to choose from. Book at ouigo.com.

TGV INOUI, SNCF’s premium high-speed brand, operates some services between Brussels and Paris on the French high-speed network. Journey times are longer than the direct Eurostar. Check SNCF Connect or Omio for times and availability.

For almost everyone: book Eurostar. Choose Ouigo only if the price difference is significant and the extra 90 minutes doesn’t matter.

Book the direct Eurostar for the fastest city-centre connection. Brussels-Midi/Zuid to Paris Gare du Nord, as little as 1 hour 22 minutes. Even the slower direct departures beat anything with stops. When comparing trains on a booking page, sort by duration and take the shortest one that works for your day.

Services with stops

Ouigo Classic runs three connections a day, stopping at Mons, Aulnoye, and Creil before Paris Gare du Nord. Journey time is around 2 hours 53 minutes.

Regional connections via Charleroi-Central and Maubeuge exist but require two changes and take around 4 hours 30 minutes. These are not a practical option for a straightforward Brussels to Paris trip.

Passport control and check-in

This is not a standard European train journey. Eurostar operates passport exit control and a security scan at Brussels-Midi before you reach the platforms. Allow 10 to 20 minutes for this. During busy periods it can take longer.

Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure. Arrive at Brussels-Midi station at least 45 minutes before your train leaves. If you miss check-in, you miss the train. Standard tickets are not automatically valid on the next departure.

How to buy tickets

Book directly on eurostar.com or via the Eurostar app. You get full seat selection, all fare types, and no booking fee. Tickets go on sale roughly six months before departure.

Comparison sites such as Omio, Trainline, and Rail Europe include Eurostar fares and can be useful for scanning options. Check whether they add a booking fee on top of the fare.

The cheapest Standard fares, from around €29, are typically only available well in advance. Prices rise as the departure fills. By the day of travel, Standard class regularly exceeds €100.

Station ticket offices at Brussels-Midi/Zuid and Paris Gare du Nord issue tickets in person. No price advantage, and a service fee may apply.

Ouigo Classic tickets are only available at ouigo.com. They are not sold through the Eurostar website.

The fastest departures cover 264 km in 1 hour 22 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 300 km/h on the high-speed line. Some departures take a few minutes longer.

Pass holder reservation fees and rules

Pass holders on Eurostar pay a seat reservation fee: around €27 for Standard class, around €32 for Standard Premier per person. Business Premier reservations carry a higher fee. Check eurostar.com or your Interrail or Eurail platform for current rates.

Book through eurostar.com, the Interrail app, the Eurail app, or an approved travel agent. A small service fee may apply through some channels.

Do not board without your reservation. Eurostar assigns specific seats. A pass alone does not give you the right to a seat. Boarding without a valid reservation results in a penalty fare.

Luggage

Standard class: two large bags (up to 85 cm in any dimension) plus one piece of hand luggage. No weight limit, but you must lift and store your own bags.

Allowances differ by class. Business Premier passengers are entitled to more. Check the specific allowance for your ticket on the Eurostar website.

Conventional bicycles are not permitted. Bikes must be disassembled and packed in a bag or box. Folded bicycles that fit within the standard luggage dimensions can be treated as hand luggage. Check the current policy before you travel.

Contact Eurostar in advance for oversized items, instruments, and unusual sports equipment. Some require prior approval.

Arriving at Paris Gare du Nord

Gare du Nord is one of Europe’s busiest stations. On a peak arrival it can feel chaotic. Follow the exit signs and you’ll be fine.

Metro lines 4 and 5 both depart from the station and connect to central Paris. RER B runs directly to Charles de Gaulle airport in around 35 minutes, and also serves Châtelet-Les Halles, the main interchange for the central arrondissements. RER D connects to Gare de Lyon for onward TGV journeys south.

Taxis pick up on Rue de Dunkerque at the main entrance. Queues can be long at peak times. Ride-hailing services operate nearby.
