Gdańsk Główny is the station for the Main Town and the city's main stop for PKP Intercity trains from Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Wrocław, Szczecin and Berlin. Local trains to Sopot and Gdynia call here too.

Arriving at Gdańsk Główny

Długi Targ, the Long Market with Neptune's Fountain, is a little over 1 km south-east of the station. Cross Podwale Grodzkie at the street-level crossing in front of the station and follow the main road south to Brama Wyżynna, the Upland Gate. From there the Royal Route runs through the Golden Gate and along Długa street into Długi Targ. With heavy luggage, take a southbound tram one stop from Dworzec Główny to Brama Wyżynna; lines 3, 6, 8 and 9 all make that hop. A single ride on a ZTM tram or bus costs PLN 4.80, and the 75-minute ticket costs PLN 6. A 24-hour ZTM ticket costs PLN 22. Buy at the ticket machines at stops, in an app such as jakdojade.pl or moBiLET, or with the System Fala app.

Trains from Gdańsk Główny

PKP Intercity runs the long-distance trains from platforms 1 and 2. Pendolino (EIP) trains leave about once an hour for Warsaw, and most continue to Kraków, Katowice or Bielsko-Biała. Warszawa Centralna is about 2 hours 35 minutes away by Pendolino and between 3 hours and 3 hours 20 minutes by an ordinary Intercity train. Intercity trains also run to Poznań, Wrocław and Szczecin.

The Gedania leaves Gdańsk Główny at about 07:30 once a day for Berlin, running via Bydgoszcz and Poznań. Engineering work changes the last leg: from 25 October to 27 November 2026 and on 12 December the train ends at Berlin-Lichtenberg, arriving at 13:13, and from 28 November to 11 December a replacement bus runs from Frankfurt (Oder) to Berlin Hbf, arriving at 14:30. The Baltic Express runs to Prague four times a day, and the daytime trains take about nine hours.

Malbork and its castle are about 25 minutes away on most PKP Intercity trains to Warsaw, or about an hour by Polregio regional train, so it works as a day trip.

Sopot and Gdynia by SKM

SKM Trójmiasto runs the city trains along the coast from platform 3. On weekdays they leave every 10 minutes or better from about 06:00 until 20:00. From 25 October to 12 December 2026 they run every 30 minutes on Saturdays and Sundays. Sopot is 21 minutes away and Gdynia Główna 34 minutes.

The ticket is the trap here. ZTM city tickets work on trams and buses but not on SKM trains. SKM singles are priced by distance and start at PLN 7. A single ticket valid anywhere in Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia costs PLN 12.50, and a metropolitan 24-hour rail and city ticket covers SKM and Polregio trains and one city network, such as ZTM Gdańsk, for PLN 30. Buy before boarding at a station machine or in an app. A ticket from a machine or an app is valid for three hours from the time it is issued. A paper metropolitan ticket, such as the 24-hour one, must be stamped in a validator before your first train. If you board without a ticket, use the first door of the train and find the conductor at once; the ticket then costs PLN 4 extra.

A PKP Intercity ticket from a station outside the Pomeranian Voivodeship also works on SKM and Polregio trains between Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, including the Polregio airport trains, for 75 minutes after your train arrives, or for 75 minutes before it departs. This applies from 30 March to 12 December 2026 and does not cover bike tickets.

The airport

Polregio trains run from Gdańsk Główny to Gdańsk Port Lotniczy about every two hours and take 25 to 50 minutes, because some wait at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz on the way. At other times take an SKM train to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, 6 minutes away, and change to a Polregio airport train. These leave once or twice an hour and reach the airport in 20 to 25 minutes. The airport trains use platform 1 or 2 at Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, so read the departure board. The airport station stands directly in front of the terminal, and a covered footbridge links the two.

Bus 210 is the alternative. It leaves the Dworzec Główny stop on Podwale Grodzkie every 30 minutes on weekdays, takes about 40 minutes and costs PLN 4.80. Night bus N3 covers the hours after the 210 stops.

Tickets

A PKP Intercity ticket includes a seat reservation. Buy it at intercity.pl, in the PKP Intercity app, at a ticket machine or at the counter. For Pendolino trains, buy the ticket before you board. SKM and Polregio sell their own tickets.

Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, Interrail pass holders need a compulsory reservation with a supplement of PLN 43 on Pendolino trains. Selected Intercity and TLK trains marked [R] in the timetable need a seat reservation, and one is recommended on the other Express Intercity, Intercity and TLK trains; PKP Intercity charges PLN 3. Every train across the border needs a reservation bought before boarding: €4 for the Gedania to Berlin and €3.50 for the Baltic Express to Prague. A Poland One Country Pass stops at the border, so these trains need a Global Pass or a ticket for the part outside Poland. Polregio and SKM regional trains need no reservation.

Use Gdańsk Główny. Długi Targ is a little over 1 km away: cross Podwale Grodzkie in front of the station, walk south to Brama Wyżynna and follow Długa street. Trams 3, 6, 8 and 9 run one stop from Dworzec Główny to Brama Wyżynna if you have luggage.

How do I get from Gdańsk to Sopot and Gdynia by train?

Take an SKM train from platform 3 at Gdańsk Główny. They leave about every 10 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes at weekends, and take 21 minutes to Sopot and 34 minutes to Gdynia Główna. Buy an SKM ticket before boarding, because a ZTM city ticket is not valid on the train.

Is there a direct train from Gdańsk Główny to Gdańsk Airport?

Yes, about every two hours. Polregio trains run from Gdańsk Główny to Gdańsk Port Lotniczy in 25 to 50 minutes. At other times take an SKM train to Gdańsk Wrzeszcz and change to a Polregio airport train, which leaves once or twice an hour. The airport station is in front of the terminal.

Is there a direct train from Gdańsk to Berlin?

Yes. The PKP Intercity Gedania runs once a day from Gdynia through Gdańsk Główny, Bydgoszcz and Poznań, leaving Gdańsk Główny at about 07:30. From 25 October to 27 November 2026 and on 12 December it ends at Berlin-Lichtenberg. From 28 November to 11 December a bus replaces it between Frankfurt (Oder) and Berlin Hbf.

Can I use a PKP Intercity ticket on SKM trains?

Yes, in some cases. A single PKP Intercity ticket issued from a station outside the Pomeranian Voivodeship to Gdańsk, Sopot or Gdynia is valid on SKM and Polregio trains in the Tricity for 75 minutes after your train arrives. The same applies for 75 minutes before departure on a ticket from the Tricity. This runs from 30 March to 12 December 2026.
