Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct train from Stockholm to Brussels?

No. There is no direct Stockholm-Brussels train. You need at least two changes. The main route goes via Hamburg and Cologne, with a total journey of around 17 to 22 hours.

How long does Stockholm to Brussels by train take?

Plan for 17 to 22 hours for a well-connected through journey. The fastest connections take around 17 to 20 hours, but these assume tight, on-time transfers across four countries. Leave at least 60 minutes at Hamburg for your transfer.

What is the best route from Stockholm to Brussels by train?

Check Snalltaget first for a direct Stockholm-Hamburg leg, then DB ICE to Cologne (around 4 hours 30 minutes) and Eurostar to Brussels-Midi (around 1 hour 50 minutes). If Snalltaget does not suit your dates, take SJ or a regional train to Malmo, Oresundstag to Copenhagen, an IC or EC to Hamburg via Padborg, and then the same German and Belgian legs.

Is the SJ Stockholm to Copenhagen train running?

No, not in mid-2026. SJ's direct Stockholm-Copenhagen service has been suspended since early 2026 and is expected to resume in autumn 2026. Until then, travel SJ or a regional train to Malmo, then the Oresundstag to Copenhagen H (around 35 minutes from Malmo C).

Can I use Interrail or Eurail from Stockholm to Brussels?

Yes. An Interrail or Eurail Global Pass covers all four countries on this route. A one-country pass does not. Every leg requires or strongly recommends a reservation on top of the pass. On Snalltaget, reservations are compulsory. Eurostar always requires one. Snalltaget pass-holder reservation fees in low season have been around SEK 149 for a day seat and SEK 199 for a night seat. Check Snalltaget's pass page for current figures.

Which Brussels station do international trains arrive at?

Brussels-Midi, also written as Bruxelles-Midi or Brussel-Zuid. Long-distance international trains do not stop at Brussels-Central or Brussels-North. Confirm your ticket shows Brussels-Midi before paying.

Is there still a train ferry between Denmark and Germany?

No. The Puttgarden-Rodby train ferry ended in December 2019. Trains now run overland via Padborg. The Fehmarnbelt fixed link is under construction but not yet open. Journey time from Copenhagen H to Hamburg Hbf via Padborg is around 4 hours 40 minutes.
