A direct train every half hour
EAV runs this line, not Trenitalia. Every Sorrento train starts at Napoli Porta Nolana and stops at Napoli Garibaldi three minutes later. In the timetable valid from 17 October 2026 there is a train every 30 minutes from early morning, and the last one leaves Porta Nolana around 22:00. Count on about 1 hour 15 minutes from Porta Nolana, or 1 hour 12 minutes from Garibaldi.
You cannot overshoot. Sorrento is the end of the line. On the way the train calls at Ercolano Scavi, Pompei Scavi, Castellammare di Stabia and Vico Equense, so it is also the train for Herculaneum and Pompeii.
Where to board in Naples
Arriving at Napoli Centrale by Frecciarossa or Italo? Board at Napoli Garibaldi, the Circumvesuviana station underneath the Napoli Centrale complex at Piazza Garibaldi. Go to Porta Nolana only if you are staying nearby. As the first stop, it gives you a better chance of a seat.
Other Circumvesuviana lines share these stations, so make sure the train shows Sorrento before you get on.
Tickets and payment
This is EAV's own network. Trenitalia and Italo tickets do not cover it, and Interrail lists the Circumvesuviana among the trains its pass does not cover. Buy an EAV ticket at the ticket office or in the GoEav app.
The simplest option is a contactless bank card. Tap it on the turnstile in Naples and tap out at Sorrento with the same card or phone. Forget to tap out and you pay the maximum fare.
Strike days
National transport strikes reach this line too. EAV posts strike notices on its website, and on a strike day only the trains marked as guaranteed in the timetable are sure to run.
