Wengen has one station, Wengen station, in the middle of the car-free village, and the Wengernalp Railway from Lauterbrunnen is the way in. Cars stop in the valley, so every visitor arrives by train.
Why Wengen is a train-only stop
Wengen sits on a terrace above the Lauterbrunnen valley and has no public road. If you drive, leave the car at Lauterbrunnen, where parking is limited, and take the train up. The Jungfrau Railways' car park status page shows how full the Lauterbrunnen car park is. Wengen station is in the village itself, so there is no onward bus or tram to look for: you walk.
Trains from Interlaken Ost and the rest of Switzerland
From Interlaken Ost, take the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB) from platform 2A to Lauterbrunnen, then change to the Wengernalp Railway (WAB). The BOB leaves Interlaken Ost twice an hour, at about :04 and :34, and takes 22 minutes. The WAB leaves Lauterbrunnen twice an hour, at about :00 and :30, and reaches Wengen in 11 minutes. Door to door the trip takes about 37 minutes. Sit in the front section of the BOB, because the train splits at Zweilütschinen and the rear carriages go to Grindelwald.
From Bern, Zürich or Geneva you normally change at Interlaken Ost and again at Lauterbrunnen. Until 11 December 2026 the line between Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost is closed for works: trains end at Interlaken West, and replacement buses go on to Interlaken Ost and Wilderswil, where you can board the BOB to Lauterbrunnen. Bern to Wengen takes about 1 hour 37 minutes this way. From 12 December 2026 trains run through to Interlaken Ost again. Trains from Lucerne still run to Interlaken Ost.
The pattern is the same every day of the week. Over Christmas and New Year and on winter weekends, from 24 December 2026, extra trains run between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen, up to four an hour through the day.
Going back, trains leave Wengen for Lauterbrunnen twice an hour (at :13 and :43 in the early morning and evening, at :11 and :41 through the day) and take 13 to 14 minutes. The first morning train leaves at 05:09. The last train from Wengen that connects with a BOB train to Interlaken Ost leaves at 21:13. After that, BOB buses leave Lauterbrunnen station at 22:30 and 23:30 for Interlaken Ost (24 minutes), connecting with the 22:13 and 23:13 from Wengen. From 13 December 2026 trains replace these buses, at the same times.
Until 12 December 2026 the last train from Interlaken Ost leaves at 22:05 and reaches Wengen at 22:41, and a later BOB bus leaves Interlaken Ost at 23:04 and connects for Wengen at 23:43. From 13 December 2026 a train leaves at 23:05 and reaches Wengen at 23:43.
Kleine Scheidegg, the Jungfraujoch and Grindelwald
The WAB climbs on from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg in 22 minutes and comes back down in 27. At Kleine Scheidegg you change for the Jungfrau Railway to the Jungfraujoch, or for the WAB down to Grindelwald (39 minutes, via Grindelwald Grund). Tickets to the Jungfraujoch start at CHF 129.60 and are sold at jungfrau.ch.
From 9 November to 4 December 2026 no trains run between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg. To get to Kleine Scheidegg or the Jungfraujoch, go down to Lauterbrunnen, take the BOB via Zweilütschinen to Grindelwald and the Wengernalp Railway up from Grindelwald. Allow about 1 hour 40 minutes from Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg. From 21 November the Eiger Express from Grindelwald Terminal is another way up. The Eiger Express is closed from 9 to 20 November 2026. Through trains from Wengen run again from 5 December.
Männlichen cable car
The Wengen to Männlichen cable car is closed for its annual revision and reopens on 12 December 2026. It then runs from 8:15 to 16:15, every 15 minutes, until 29 January 2027, with the last descent from Männlichen at 16:30. A one-way ticket costs CHF 31 and a return CHF 62.
Tickets and luggage
Wengen station has a ticket machine and lockers. SBB's luggage service picks up bags from any address in Switzerland or Liechtenstein and delivers them the next day to selected hotels in the Jungfrau Region. Ask your hotel whether it takes part.

As of November 2026, an Interrail Global Pass or One Country Pass Switzerland covers the BOB from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen and the WAB from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen on a travel day, but the Wengen leg has to be added by hand in the Rail Planner app. No seat reservation is needed on these trains.
