Grindelwald station serves the village. For the Eiger Express and the Jungfraujoch, get off one stop earlier, at Grindelwald Terminal.
Which station to use
Grindelwald has three stations: Grindelwald (the main station), Grindelwald Terminal and Grindelwald Grund. Grindelwald is in the middle of the village, and the local buses stop outside it. Trains from Interlaken Ost on the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB) call at Grindelwald Terminal just before they reach Grindelwald. The Terminal is the valley station of the Eiger Express gondola to Eigergletscher, the quickest way up to the Jungfraujoch, and of the Männlichen gondola.
Grindelwald Grund is a stop on the Wengernalp Railway, the rack line to Kleine Scheidegg, eight minutes after Grindelwald station. BOB trains do not call there, so most visitors never need it.
Trains from Interlaken Ost
BOB trains run twice an hour between Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald and take 35 to 37 minutes in each direction. As of November 2026, to 12 December, the first train leaves Grindelwald for Interlaken Ost at 05:15 and the last at 21:17. From Interlaken Ost the first leaves at 06:02 and the last at 22:05, reaching Grindelwald at 22:40. The pattern is the same every day of the week. From 13 December 2026 a later pair is added, at 22:17 from Grindelwald and 23:05 from Interlaken Ost.
Two trains run coupled from Interlaken Ost to Zweilütschinen, where they split: one half goes on to Grindelwald, the other to Lauterbrunnen, so sit in the half signed for Grindelwald.
From Bern, Zürich and Lucerne
All three connect at Interlaken Ost, but works change the route until 11 December 2026. The rail line between Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost is closed, so trains from Bern and Zürich HB end at Interlaken West, and replacement buses carry on to Interlaken Ost and Wilderswil. Wilderswil is a BOB stop, so you can pick up the Grindelwald train there. Allow extra time. From Saturday 12 December 2026 trains run to Interlaken Ost again: from Bern twice an hour in 55 minutes, and from Zürich HB every hour in 1 hour 57 minutes, direct every two hours and otherwise with a change at Bern.
From Lucerne the Zentralbahn Luzern-Interlaken Express is not affected. It runs to Interlaken Ost once an hour and takes 1 hour 48 minutes to 1 hour 51 minutes.
From the station into the village
The village centre is around the station, so most visitors walk. GrindelwaldBus lines 121 (to 12 December) and 123 run from the station to the Terminal in 7 to 8 minutes, and the train is quicker. A single costs CHF 3.00 and is valid for 45 minutes. Tickets are sold at the machines on Bahnhofplatz and at the Terminal stop, by the driver, and in the öV Plus app.
The Jungfraujoch and the mountain railways
The fast way starts at Grindelwald Terminal: the Eiger Express takes 15 minutes to Eigergletscher and the Jungfrau Railway climbs from there, about 45 minutes in all. The traditional way is the Wengernalp Railway from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg, 32 minutes up and 39 down, then the Jungfrau Railway; allow about 90 minutes including changes. Tickets to the Jungfraujoch start at CHF 129.60 and are sold at jungfrau.ch.
These lines close or run less often for revision:
- Eiger Express: closed from 9 to 20 November 2026. On those days take the Wengernalp Railway to Kleine Scheidegg, where Jungfrau Railway trains run up to the Jungfraujoch as usual.
- Wengernalp Railway from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg: every 30 minutes to 20 November 2026, then hourly (07:45 to 16:45 up) to 12 December.
- Wengen to Kleine Scheidegg: closed from 9 November to 4 December 2026.
- Firstbahn to Grindelwald-First: closed for revision, reopens on 28 November 2026.
- Männlichen gondola: closed for revision, reopens on 13 December 2026.
Rail passes and reservations
As of November 2026, an Interrail Global Pass or One Country Pass Switzerland covers the BOB between Interlaken Ost and Grindelwald as a travel day, and regional trains need no reservation. The Eiger Express and the Jungfrau Railway are not free: pass holders get 25% off the Jungfraujoch trip from Grindelwald without using a travel day, and 50% off the Firstbahn. A seat reservation for the Jungfraujoch costs CHF 10 and is worth having at busy times; it is compulsory only from 1 May to 31 October.

Frequently asked questions
Is Grindelwald Terminal the same as Grindelwald station?
No. They are two BOB stops, a few minutes apart, with the Terminal first when you come from Interlaken Ost. The Terminal has the Eiger Express and Männlichen gondolas, shops, restaurants and a car park with 1,032 spaces at CHF 15 a day. The village, the buses and the Wengernalp Railway are at Grindelwald station.
Can I visit the Jungfraujoch in November?
Yes, it is open every day of the year. From 9 to 20 November 2026 the Eiger Express is closed for revision, so go up by the Wengernalp Railway from Grindelwald to Kleine Scheidegg and change to the Jungfrau Railway there; the last train up from Kleine Scheidegg leaves at 16:00 and the last down leaves the Jungfraujoch at 16:41. Outside those dates, to 12 December, the Eiger Express runs from 08:00 (last car up 15:45, last down from Eigergletscher 17:20), the last train up from Eigergletscher leaves at 16:15 and the last down from the Jungfraujoch at 16:47.
How do I get from Grindelwald to Wengen or Lauterbrunnen?
Take the BOB towards Interlaken Ost and change at Zweilütschinen for Lauterbrunnen, then the Wengernalp Railway to Wengen. From 9 November to 4 December 2026 the route over Kleine Scheidegg is not possible, because the line between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg is closed for revision; it reopens on 5 December.
Do trains to Interlaken Ost run at Christmas and New Year?
Yes. The timetable from 13 December 2026 has the same pattern on 24, 25 and 26 December and on 31 December and 1 January, including the late trains at 22:17 from Grindelwald and 23:05 from Interlaken Ost.
Can I go up one way and come back another?
Yes. Jungfrau Railways sells this as a combination: up on the Wengernalp Railway via Kleine Scheidegg and down on the Eiger Express to Grindelwald Terminal, or the other way round. It is not possible from 9 to 20 November 2026, when the Eiger Express is closed for revision; on those days you go up and down via Kleine Scheidegg.
