Get off at Lauterbrunnen station, the end of the Bernese Oberland Railway (BOB), for the village, the Staubbach Falls and the road to the Trümmelbach Falls.

Which station and where it sits

The station is at the north end of the village, on the valley floor. The village centre, with the town hall and the church, lies south along the main road, and Staubbach Falls are a little further on. The valley station of the Lauterbrunnen-Mürren cable car is opposite the railway station. A multi-storey car park with 975 spaces sits directly below the railway station.

Trains from Interlaken Ost

BOB trains run twice an hour in both directions and take about 22 minutes. As of November 2026, to 12 December, the first train leaves Interlaken Ost at 06:02 and Lauterbrunnen at 05:29. The last trains are 22:05 from Interlaken Ost and 21:31 from Lauterbrunnen, and buses replace the later ones: from Lauterbrunnen at 22:30 and 23:30, from Interlaken Ost at 23:04. Trains run the same on every day of the week; on Friday and Saturday nights one more bus runs after midnight, at 00:15 from Interlaken Ost and 01:02 from Lauterbrunnen.

From 13 December 2026 trains run until 23:05 from Interlaken Ost and 23:31 from Lauterbrunnen. On Friday and Saturday nights one more train leaves after midnight, at 00:06 from Interlaken Ost and 00:32 from Lauterbrunnen.

At Interlaken Ost the Lauterbrunnen train leaves from platform 2A. Board the front part, signed for Lauterbrunnen: the rear part splits off at Zweilütschinen and goes on to Grindelwald.

From Bern, Zürich, Lucerne and Geneva

Everyone changes onto the BOB, normally at Interlaken Ost. Until 11 December 2026 the rail line between Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost is closed for works. Trains from Bern and Zürich HB end at Interlaken West, and replacement buses carry on to Interlaken Ost and to Wilderswil, a BOB stop where you can join the Lauterbrunnen train. The fastest connections still take about 1 hour 22 minutes from Bern and 2 hours 24 minutes from Zürich HB. From Lucerne the Luzern-Interlaken Express is not affected and the journey takes about 2 hours 20 minutes. From Geneva the connections run via Bern, or via Visp and Spiez.

Wengen, Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch

The Wengernalp Railway (WAB) leaves from the same station. It reaches Wengen in 11 minutes. Trains leave about every 30 minutes from 06:00 to 21:30, with early trains at 04:54 and 05:26 and late ones at 22:30, 23:32, about 00:30 and 01:32, so there is a train up to Wengen at night too. Trains up to Kleine Scheidegg take 38 minutes and leave every 30 minutes from 07:30. The last leaves at 17:30 to 8 November, at 16:30 when the line reopens on 5 December, and at 17:30 again from 19 December. For the Jungfraujoch, take the Jungfrau Railway from Kleine Scheidegg; from 21 November you change trains again at Eigergletscher, about 45 minutes in all.

From 9 November to 4 December 2026 the line above Wengen is closed for revision and reopens on 5 December, so trains run only between Lauterbrunnen and Wengen. In that window go to the Jungfraujoch or Kleine Scheidegg through Grindelwald: take the BOB to Zweilütschinen and change there. From 9 to 20 November the Eiger Express is also closed, so from Grindelwald the way up is the Wengernalp Railway to Kleine Scheidegg. From 21 November it runs hourly from Grindelwald, 07:45 to 16:45 up.

Waterfalls and Mürren

Staubbach Falls drop about 300 metres beside the village. Follow the main road south through the village, past the Horner pub, until you reach the waterfall. The falls can be seen all year, and the gallery behind them is open from May to October.

For the Trümmelbach Falls take PostBus line 141 towards Stechelberg from the stop Lauterbrunnen, Bahnhof outside the station to Trümmelbachfälle, 7 minutes. Walking the old village road takes about 1 hour (5 km). Buses leave twice an hour from 06:35 to 23:29, and line 141 carries on to Stechelberg in 20 minutes. The falls are open daily from early April to early November, 09:00 to 17:00 (longer in July and August), and closed in winter. Adults pay CHF 18.

For Mürren, take the cable car to Grütschalp (4 minutes, first car 06:06, last 20:30) and then the train to Mürren (11 minutes). The other way is PostBus to Stechelberg and then the Schilthornbahn.

Tickets

Tickets for the trains and the PostBus are sold at the machine at the station, in the SBB Mobile app and on the bus. In winter a free shuttle bus, route 143, also runs to the station for skiers. The app is the better choice on busy buses. The station has lockers: 12 small and 9 large.

Rail passes and reservations

As of November 2026, an Interrail Global Pass or One Country Pass Switzerland covers, on a travel day, the BOB from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen and the cable car and train to Mürren. Lauterbrunnen to Wengen is covered too, but you add that leg by hand in the Rail Planner app. Above Wengen, pass holders get 25% off the Wengernalp Railway to Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch without using a travel day. Regional trains need no reservation. A Jungfraujoch seat reservation costs CHF 10 and is compulsory only from 1 May to 31 October.

The front part. At Zweilütschinen the train splits, and the rear part goes on to Grindelwald. At Interlaken Ost the BOB leaves from platform 2A.

Can I see the Trümmelbach Falls in November?

Not reliably. The falls are open daily from early April to early November, depending on the weather, and closed in winter because of falling ice and rock. Staubbach Falls can be seen from the village all year, but the gallery behind them is open only from May to October.

What is the last train from Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken Ost?

To 12 December 2026 it is 21:31, and buses replace the later ones at 22:30 and 23:30, with one more at 01:02 on Friday and Saturday nights. From 13 December trains run until 23:31, with one more at 00:32 on Friday and Saturday nights. Christmas and New Year follow the normal pattern.

Can I go from Lauterbrunnen up to Kleine Scheidegg in late November?

Not by the Wengernalp Railway. From 9 November to 4 December 2026 it is closed above Wengen, and it reopens on 5 December. Through trains from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg run again then, first at 07:30. In the meantime go via Zweilütschinen and Grindelwald.

Is there somewhere to park or leave luggage at Lauterbrunnen station?

Yes on both counts. A multi-storey car park with 975 spaces sits directly below the station, and you can pay by scanning your parking ticket with a smartphone before you leave. The station has 12 small and 9 large lockers.
