Frequently asked questions

Is ARST the same as Trenitalia in Sardinia?

No. ARST is a separate, regionally owned company that runs Sardinia's narrow-gauge regional trains, the Trenino Verde tourist railway and the Cagliari and Sassari metro-tram, while Trenitalia runs Sardinia's mainline services.

Which regional rail lines does ARST operate?

ARST runs four lines: Sassari-Alghero, Sassari-Sorso, Macomer-Nuoro, and Monserrato-Isili, which runs via Mandas. All four use newer Stadler trains.

How do I buy a ticket for an ARST train?

Buy through the DropTicket, Tabnet or Around Sardinia app, at an ARST ticket office, at an authorised reseller, or from a ticket machine, then validate the ticket when boarding. Boarding an ARST train without a ticket adds a €5.00 surcharge, unless the station itself has no way to buy one.

Can I bring a bike on an ARST train?

Yes, ARST allows up to 3 bikes per train. If a bike is oversized, you need either a normal single ticket for the route or a fixed €3.50 bike ticket valid for 24 hours.
