Frequently asked questions

Do I need a seat reservation on Hellenic Train InterCity services?

Yes, reservation is compulsory on all domestic IC trains and on the international train linking Thessaloniki with Sofia. An Interrail or Eurail travel day covers the fare, not the seat, so pass holders still need to buy the separate reservation.

Where can I book a Hellenic Train seat reservation?

At station ticket counters, mainly Athens Larissa, Thessaloniki, or Patras. The reservation system is not something you can reliably book in advance from outside Greece, so plan a short stop at a counter before your first IC journey.

Is a reservation compulsory on the overnight Athens to Thessaloniki train?

No, but it is worth making one anyway. Overnight capacity is limited, and travelling without a booked seat can mean standing for a journey that runs through the night.
