Český Krumlov station is the stop for the old town, but it lies north of the centre, a 1.7 km walk from náměstí Svornosti, so plan on a city bus or a walk of about 30 minutes. Local trains arrive from České Budějovice, and one direct InterCity a day runs from Prague.

Arriving at Český Krumlov station

The station is on line 194 between České Budějovice and Černý Kříž. It has a waiting room and an accessible toilet, but no ticket counter: tickets are sold on the train. The local trains are run by GW Train Regio, and the one direct train from Prague is run by České dráhy (ČD).

Trains to Český Krumlov

From České Budějovice, GW Train Regio local trains run roughly every 1 to 2 hours from early morning to late evening and take 45 to 50 minutes. The timetable is valid until 12 December 2026.

From Prague, one train a day runs through without a change: IC 533, one of the Jižní expres trains. It leaves Praha hl.n. at 09:21, calls at Tábor and České Budějovice, and reaches Český Krumlov at 11:49. IC 532 leaves Český Krumlov at 14:08 and reaches Praha hl.n. at 16:39. The other Jižní expres trains end at České Budějovice or go on to Linz, so on those you change in České Budějovice. With a change the whole trip takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the connection.

There is no direct train from Linz or Vienna. From Linz, take a train to České Budějovice and change there; the journey takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. A direct bus from Linz takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.

Train or bus from Prague

Direct RegioJet and FlixBus coaches take about 2.5 to 3 hours; the through train takes about 2.5 hours. RegioJet fares start at CZK 199. The coaches stop at the bus station, 650 m from náměstí Svornosti, or at Špičák, 800 m away, so they drop you closer to the old town than the train does. The direct train runs once a day each way, so the coach is easier when the train times do not suit you.

From the station to the old town

The walk runs along třída Míru, Serpentina and Latrán to náměstí Svornosti. It takes about 30 minutes. With a case or after a long day, take the city bus instead: the stop Český Krumlov, žel.st. is in front of the station. Lines 335075 and 335076 both run from there via Špičák to the bus station in 7 to 10 minutes, together roughly hourly in the daytime and less often at weekends. There are no city buses late in the evening, so from the later trains you walk or take a taxi. A single ticket costs CZK 15, lasts 60 minutes and can be bought from the driver. From the bus station the walk to the square takes about 13 minutes, and from Špičák about 15.

Cobbles, hills and luggage

The historic centre is a pedestrian zone with cobbled streets, steps and steep sections, especially between náměstí Svornosti and the castle gardens. Visitors' cars cannot enter. If you are staying in the centre, ask your accommodation about luggage transport.

You can leave bags at the Infocentrum at náměstí Svornosti 2, in the self-service lockers in the bus station building, or at Port 1560 at Pivovarská 27, which is open 24 hours.

Tickets

Since 1 July 2026 the IDESKA tariff covers South Bohemia, so one ticket can include the train and the city bus. The tariff is valid in second class on ČD InterCity trains between České Budějovice and Český Krumlov as well as on the local trains. Buy tickets on the train or in the Můj vlak and IDESKA apps.

Rail passes and reservations

An Interrail Pass is valid on all ČD trains, including the through IC 533 and IC 532. A seat reservation on Czech InterCity trains costs €3.60 and is not compulsory on these trains. GW Train Regio local trains between České Budějovice and Český Krumlov are not covered by the pass, so buy a separate ticket for that stretch. If you use a pass to reach České Budějovice by another ČD train, pay for the local train from there.
