Which station to use

Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží is the station for every through train, including the fast R9 from Prague and the R41 via Český Brod. There is no step-free access to the platforms. It is not the station for the old town: the centre lies about 3 km away, and the last stretch is a local train to Kutná Hora město or bus 801.

All trains here are run by České dráhy (ČD). There is a ticket counter and left-luggage office in the station building, passenger areas open daily from 04:40 to 24:00, and a taxi rank nearby.

Trains from Prague

The R9 from Praha hl.n. takes 52 minutes to Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží. It leaves Praha hl.n. at xx:04, about every one to two hours, and most trains continue through Čáslav and Světlá nad Sázavou towards Jihlava or Brno. The R41 runs on weekdays only, through Český Brod and Kolín, and takes 1 hour 12 minutes. Three trains leave Praha hl.n. early in the morning (05:55, 06:55, 07:55) and six in the afternoon (14:27 to 19:27, hourly). These times apply until the timetable change on 13 December 2026.

Going back, the R9 leaves Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží at xx:03 on a similar pattern, and the last R9 to Praha hl.n. departs at 21:03. Local trains also connect Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží with Kolín and Čáslav. No international train calls here; for Germany, Austria or Poland, change in Prague.

From the station to the old town

You have two ways into the old town. The local train to Kutná Hora město takes 8 to 10 minutes and runs once or twice an hour. Most departures are timed to meet the R9: it arrives at xx:56 and the město train leaves at xx:05. Kutná Hora město is the station for the historic centre and the Church of St Barbara.

Bus 801 leaves from outside the station every 15 minutes on weekdays until about 19:00. At weekends it runs every 15 minutes from about 10:00 to 17:00 and less often outside those hours. It reaches the Kamenná kašna stop in the old town in about 20 minutes. Going back, take it from Palackého náměstí, which is 18 minutes from the station. PID tickets are valid on both. On the bus you can also buy a CZK 20 town ticket from the driver, valid for 30 minutes within Kutná Hora.

The Sedlec Ossuary and the Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady are in Sedlec, the district around the main station. Bus 801 reaches the Kutná Hora,Sedlec, kostnice stop 3 minutes after leaving the station. It is a request stop, so press the button.

The ossuary sells timed tickets only. Adults pay CZK 220 (as of 9 October 2026). Buy online or at the Sedlec Information Centre and expect to spend up to 30 minutes in the lower chapel. Arrive 5 minutes before your slot; entry is not guaranteed if you arrive more than 10 minutes late. The ossuary is being restored until at least 2030 and stays open throughout.

Tickets

Kutná Hora lies in the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) area. A ticket from Prague counts as 10 zones and costs CZK 120 in the PID Lítačka app or CZK 130 on paper, valid for 3 hours. PID tickets are valid on the R41 and, in second class only, on the R9 (confirmed for the timetable running to 12 December 2026).

The ticket counter at Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží is open Monday to Friday from 05:50 to 17:30, Saturday from 06:45 to 16:45 and Sunday from 08:45 to 18:45, with short breaks, and takes cards. Outside those hours, use the app or buy online at cd.cz.

Left luggage keeps the counter's hours, so collect bags before 17:30 on weekdays.

Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, Interrail passes valid in Czechia work on ČD trains. The R9, the R41 and the local trains to Kutná Hora město need no reservation. Interrail's Czech reservation rules apply only to selected InterCity and SuperCity trains and to Leo Express and RegioJet. Activate the travel day in the Rail Planner app, or write it on a paper pass, before you board.

Traps to avoid

  • Getting off at Kutná Hora hlavní nádraží and expecting the old town to be next door. The centre is about 3 km away, so take the local train or bus 801.
  • Turning up at the ossuary without a ticket. Entry is by time slot, and late arrivals may not get in.
  • Collecting bags too late. The left-luggage office closes at 17:30 on weekdays, long before the last R9 to Prague at 21:03.
