There is no direct train from Valencia to Benidorm. The rail journey is a Renfe train from València Nord to Alicante/Alacant Terminal, a walk to Luceros TRAM station, and FGV TRAM d'Alacant Line 1 to Benidorm or Benidorm Intermodal. The fastest direct ALSA coach takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and is simpler if you do not need the rail journey.

Journey time and service pattern

Allow about 4 hours to 4 hours 30 minutes for the whole rail journey. The Renfe train takes about 2 hours 15 minutes, the walk to Luceros takes under 10 minutes, and Line 1 takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. Add time for the tram wait, as trams run about every 30 minutes.

About 7 trains a day run from Valencia to Alicante, and Line 1 trams leave Luceros about every 30 minutes. The direct ALSA coach runs 22 times a day and takes from about 1 hour 45 minutes to 4 hours 30 minutes, depending on stops. Use the official planners to match your train with a tram.

The rail route

Renfe trains to Alicante currently leave from València Nord (Estació del Nord), not Joaquín Sorolla, and arrive at Alicante/Alacant Terminal. Check the station on your ticket. Euromed trains run between Valencia and Alicante. Check the timetable and buy tickets on Renfe's website for your date. The train is only the first part of the journey: Benidorm is reached by changing to FGV's TRAM d'Alacant.

Alicante/Alacant Terminal is on Avenida de Salamanca. The railway station and Luceros TRAM station are separate, so walk across central Alicante after your train arrives. The walk takes under 10 minutes; allow at least 30 minutes for leaving the station, crossing the centre, getting your TRAM ticket and reaching the platform.

FGV TRAM d'Alacant Line 1 runs from Luceros towards Benidorm and Benidorm Intermodal. Both Benidorm and Benidorm Intermodal stops are inland, about 1.6 to 2 kilometres from the seafront. From either, continue to your hotel by local bus, taxi or on foot.

Tickets and reservations

Buy the Renfe and FGV legs separately. The Renfe ticket covers the train to Alicante/Alacant Terminal. Buy your TRAM d'Alacant ticket for Line 1 at Luceros and validate it before you board.

An Interrail Global Pass is valid on Renfe Euromed trains, but a seat reservation is compulsory. It costs €10 in second class. Do not assume your pass covers the tram: buy a Line 1 ticket at Luceros. A pass does not remove the Alicante transfer.

The direct ALSA coach is a separate bus ticket. It arrives at Benidorm Estación de Autobuses on Calle Francisco Llorca Anton 6. From the bus station, use a local bus, taxi or a walk to reach your accommodation.

Choosing between the rail and bus routes

Take the direct ALSA coach when you want the simplest trip: the fastest coach takes about 1 hour 45 minutes and it avoids the Alicante transfer. Take the Renfe and TRAM route if you prefer rail for the long-distance leg, are using a pass on the Renfe train, or want to travel through Alicante and along the coast. The rail option needs two tickets and a planned walk between Alicante/Alacant Terminal and Luceros.
