Taking the train from Olomouc to Prague is straightforward: direct services run from Olomouc hlavní nádraží to Praha hlavní nádraží throughout the day, and most useful departures take roughly 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 40 minutes. Three operators serve the corridor — České dráhy, RegioJet and Leo Express — and comparing all three before you book is worth the extra minute.
Direct Services and Journey Time
Most travellers should choose a direct train from Olomouc main station to Prague Main Station. No change of train is needed in normal conditions.
České dráhy (ČD) lists Olomouc to Prague at 2 hours 17 minutes on SC Pendolino, 2 hours 27 minutes on EuroCity or InterCity trains, and 2 hours 37 minutes on the R18 fast train. Leo Express advertises its Olomouc–Prague service as direct in 2 hours 15 minutes. A RegioJet sample search for 27 May 2026 returned direct train options ranging from 2 hours 18 minutes to 2 hours 28 minutes.
Those figures are route-planning anchors, not a guarantee for every date. Engineering work, specific stopping patterns and train category can all affect the exact arrival time, so check the live timetable before paying.
Choosing Between the Three Operators
The right operator depends on whether you care most about frequency, price, class choice or rail-pass rules.
České dráhy — Widest Timetable
Start with ČD if you want the most schedule choice. ČD advertises 33 daily connections on the Olomouc–Prague route, including night options, and says it runs at least hourly, with up to three departures in a single hour at peak times.
ČD also lets you compare train categories directly. The fastest option is usually the SC Pendolino, but it requires a seat reservation. EuroCity, InterCity and R18 services are a little slower but often give more departure choices and can be cheaper.
RegioJet — Direct Private-Operator Alternative
RegioJet is worth checking if its yellow trains match your preferred time and price. A live RegioJet sample for 27 May 2026 returned 11 direct train departures from Olomouc to Prague, plus one slower mixed bus-and-train option.
The direct RegioJet examples in that sample took 2 hours 18 minutes to 2 hours 28 minutes, with fares ranging from EUR 6.30 to EUR 21.00. Treat those as checked examples rather than fixed prices, because RegioJet fares change with date, demand and class.
Leo Express — Low-Fare Direct Option
Leo Express is worth considering when its timetable lines up with your day. Leo Express advertises Olomouc–Prague as a 2 hour 15 minute direct journey from EUR 3.30.
Leo Express lists Olomouc Main Station, Praha-Libeň and Prague Main Station as stops on the route. Praha-Libeň can be convenient for some eastern Prague destinations, but Prague Main Station is the better default for the city centre.
Tickets and Fares
This is a competitive Czech domestic corridor with dynamic pricing, so compare the three operator sites before you buy.
Leo Express advertises the lowest official route-page anchor, from EUR 3.30. The RegioJet sample checked for 27 May 2026 showed direct trains from EUR 6.30. ČD advertises a discounted IN 25 second-class fare from 187 CZK for eligible cardholders.
Do not assume the lowest advertised fare will be available for your date. Morning business departures, Fridays, Sundays and public-holiday periods typically sell at higher prices. If the cheapest train is much later than you need, paying a little more for the right direct departure is usually the better decision.
Stations
Use Olomouc hlavní nádraží in Olomouc and Praha hlavní nádraží in Prague unless your ticket clearly states otherwise.
Olomouc hlavní nádraží is the city’s main railway station and the normal departure point for intercity trains to Prague.
Praha hlavní nádraží — Prague Main Station — is the main arrival point for most visitors. It sits in Prague’s PID zone P, with ticketing and reservation services on site, metro access and the Airport Express bus stop in front of the building. If you are heading to a hotel in central Prague, this is usually the most convenient arrival station.
Some Leo Express trains also call at Praha-Libeň before Prague Main Station. Use that stop only if it is clearly closer to your final destination.
Rail Passes and Seat Reservations
Interrail and Eurail passholders should check the operator and train category before boarding — a pass alone is not a walk-on ticket for every service on this corridor.
On ČD, the key caveat is the SC Pendolino. ČD describes its SuperCity trains on the Ostrava–Olomouc–Pardubice–Prague route as reservation-required.
For Leo Express, Eurail states that reservations are free but mandatory before boarding. For RegioJet, Eurail lists reservations as mandatory on the Prague–Pardubice–Olomouc–Ostrava route. Interrail’s booking guidance directs travellers to the relevant carrier for Czech reservations, including ČD, Leo Express and RegioJet.
In practice: add the journey to your pass, then secure the required reservation through the operator or pass reservation channel before building the rest of your day around that train.
Practical Booking Approach
Book the train that fits your real arrival plan, not just the cheapest result on the first screen.
For maximum flexibility, compare several ČD departures first. For a specific seat and a private-operator product, check RegioJet and Leo Express as well. If you are using a pass, resolve the reservation question before committing to a wider itinerary.
Keep the operator on your ticket in mind. A ČD ticket, a RegioJet ticket and a Leo Express ticket are not interchangeable even though the trains share the same city pair. If you miss a train, check the conditions in the same operator’s app or website before boarding another service.
