Cascais station is the only station for Cascais and the end of the Linha de Cascais, so every train from Lisbon finishes here. Trains from Lisboa Cais do Sodré take about 40 minutes.
Which station to use
Use Cascais. There is no other rail stop for the town and no choice to make: every train on the line ends at the platforms here, close to the old town and the bay. The town hall square, Praça 5 de Outubro, is the centre point and lies about 500 m from the station.

Stops worth knowing on the way
Belém is the stop for the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, about 8 minutes from Cais do Sodré on trains that call at every station. At weekends and on weekdays outside the peaks every Cascais train stops there. In the weekday peaks (trains leaving Cascais from 06:50 to 09:05 and from 17:05 to 20:20) Cascais trains run fast and skip Belém; change at São Pedro do Estoril or Oeiras to an all-stops train. Estoril is the second stop out of Cascais, after Monte Estoril, if you want the Estoril seafront and casino. At Oeiras, platforms can change during the works: follow the station signs for your train.
Getting from the station into town
The old town and Praça 5 de Outubro are close enough to walk from the station. For Boca do Inferno you can take MobiCascais bus M27 Cascais Circular, which starts at Cascais Estação and lists Cidadela, Praça 5 de Outubro and Boca do Inferno among its stops.
Tickets
A single from Cais do Sodré to Cascais costs €2.55 and a Lisboa to Cascais return €5.10 (CP fares since 1 January 2026), loaded on a reusable Navegante ocasional card that costs €0.50 and lasts one year. Cheaper still is Zapping, a prepaid balance on the same card: each CP trip deducts €2.05, and you can change trains within the Lisbon urban network for 1 hour 30 minutes.
For a day of hopping between stops, the CP Tourist Travel Card costs €6.70 for 24 hours or €14.40 for 72 hours and covers the Sintra, Azambuja, Cascais and Sado lines.
Buy at the CP ticket office or the machines in the stations, or in the CP app. The Cascais ticket office is open 07:30 to 19:45 every day (hours in force from 14 September 2026); outside those hours use a machine or the app. Validate your card at the gate before boarding. CP fines passengers who have not validated.
Rail passes and reservations
The Linha de Cascais has no seat reservations and no supplements. Interrail passes covering Portugal are valid on the line: Interrail lists Lisbon to Cascais among the CP urban lines its passes cover, with no reservation needed (as of November 2026). CP's Portugal Rail Pass, sold to people who do not live in Portugal, also covers urban trains.
Sintra and other day trips

Things that catch travellers out
- Evening works on the line. Modernisation works close the line between Caxias and Cascais every evening, so a CP replacement bus calls at every station between Cascais and Caxias, where you change to the train: Monday to Friday from 21:50, Saturdays from 20:50, and on Sundays from 05:30 to 08:50 and from 19:50. Bus times are approximate, a train connection is guaranteed only for the last train of the night, and the buses carry no bicycles or scooters. CP has given no end date (as of November 2026).
- Late trains thin out. After 20:20 on weekdays, Cascais departures are at 20:40, 21:00 and 21:30, then every 30 minutes.
- Ticket offices shut at 19:45, well before the last trains.
