Prague to Ostrava by Train

The Prague to Ostrava train is one of the easiest long-distance trips in Czechia. Direct trains run from Praha hlavni nadrazi to Ostrava hl. n., and many services also stop at Ostrava-Svinov before the main station.

The fastest Ceske drahy SuperCity Pendolino services cover the route in about 3 hours 7 minutes. Most other direct services, EuroCity, InterCity, RegioJet, and Leo Express, take closer to 3 hours 25 minutes to 3 hours 40 minutes, depending on the train and stops.

The Direct Route in Brief

Take a direct train from Praha hlavni nadrazi to Ostrava hl. n. for the simplest trip.

Before you book, compare Ceske drahy, RegioJet, and Leo Express. All three sell direct trains on the Prague-Ostrava corridor, but tickets, seat classes, reservation rules, and refund conditions are operator-specific and not interchangeable.

For most travellers, Ceske drahy is the first place to check. It has the widest choice of direct trains, including SuperCity Pendolino, InterCity, and EuroCity services. RegioJet and Leo Express are worth checking when price, onboard class, or a specific departure time matters.

Train Times and Operators

Direct trains are the normal way to travel between Prague and Ostrava. You do not need to change trains for the core city-to-city journey unless your chosen departure is sold out, disrupted, or routed differently on your date.

Ceske drahy

Ceske drahy runs SuperCity Pendolino, InterCity, and EuroCity trains between Prague and Ostrava. The fastest SuperCity Pendolino journey is listed at 3 hours 7 minutes. EuroCity and InterCity journeys are listed at about 3 hours 27 minutes.

Ceske drahy is the strongest option for frequency. Its Ostrava-Prague route page advertises trains every hour and 16 daily connections, including night services.

The reservation rule changed with the 2026 timetable. From 14 December 2025, Ceske drahy made seat reservations mandatory on all commercial Ex 1 trains between Prague and Ostrava, including EC and IC services. If you book through the Ceske drahy e-shop or My Train app, the reservation is included automatically at no extra charge. At a ticket office, the reservation costs CZK 35.

RegioJet

RegioJet operates direct express trains on the Prague-Ostrava route. Check it when you want to compare fares or choose a specific onboard class.

RegioJet tickets are not valid on Ceske drahy trains, and vice versa. Book with the operator whose train you plan to board, and check the cancellation conditions for your fare before paying.

Leo Express

Leo Express runs direct trains from Prague toward Ostrava, Bohumin, and Presov. Its current Prague-Prerov-Ostrava-Bohumin-Presov timetable is valid from 30 April 2026 to 12 December 2026.

Services stop at Ostrava-Svinov and Ostrava hl. n., but some trains have operating-day limits. Check the exact date before relying on a specific Leo Express departure.

Tickets, Fares, and Reservations

Fares on Prague-Ostrava trains are dynamic. The practical rule is to compare live prices for the exact train, date, and class before you buy.

Ceske drahy advertises route-specific fares from CZK 217 in 2nd class with an In Karta IN 25 discount card. That is a loyalty-card price, not a universal walk-up fare. RegioJet and Leo Express also price by date, demand, and class.

Reservations matter on this route. Ceske drahy commercial Ex 1 services between Prague and Ostrava require seat reservations under the 2026 timetable rules. RegioJet RJ trains require a reservation for Eurail and Interrail pass holders, with class-based pass-holder reservation prices published by RegioJet. Leo Express says Interrail and Eurail tickets are valid on its train connections and that a reservation is necessary, with no reservation fee.

If you are buying a standard ticket rather than using a pass, book the whole trip with the operator you plan to ride. A ticket from one company cannot be used on another company's train.

Which Station to Use

In Prague, use Praha hlavni nadrazi. It is the main city-centre departure point for this route. Some trains also stop at Praha-Liben after leaving the main station, but Praha hlavni nadrazi is the clearest choice for most visitors.

In Ostrava, choose the station that fits your final destination:

• Ostrava hl. n. is the main station and the best default if you are heading into central Ostrava or connecting onward.

• Ostrava-Svinov can be more convenient for some western and southern parts of the city.

Ostrava public transport runs under the ODIS integrated system. Local trams, buses, and trolleybuses are operated by DPO. You can pay e-fares directly in vehicles by contactless debit or credit card, by SMS, through the Moje DPO app, with an ODISka card, or with a credit ticket.

Best Booking Strategy

Pick the train first, then the seller.

If you value frequency and a simple Czech rail app, start with Ceske drahy. If you want to compare price and comfort classes, check RegioJet and Leo Express before paying. On this route, a few minutes of comparison can make a real difference because three operators compete for the same city pair.

Book a direct train unless you have a specific reason to change. A connection via another station usually makes the trip longer and adds risk without giving most travellers any benefit.

Prague to Ostrava with Interrail or Eurail

Rail passes are valid on this corridor, but the reservation rule is the part to check carefully before you travel.

Ceske drahy states that Interrail tickets do not guarantee a seat and that some trains require reservations or supplements. For Prague-Ostrava commercial Ex 1 trains, reservations are mandatory under the 2026 timetable rules.

RegioJet lists the RJ Prague-Ostrava line among the routes where Eurail and Interrail passes are valid. RJ category trains require seat reservations. RegioJet publishes pass-holder reservation prices by class: Low Cost EUR 1.30, Standard EUR 2.00, Relax EUR 2.80, and Business EUR 1.30 for 1st-class pass holders.

Leo Express says Interrail and Eurail tickets are valid on its train connections and that a reservation is necessary, with no reservation fee.

If a pass reservation is not available for the train you want, compare the cash fare. Domestic Czech tickets on this route can be inexpensive enough that saving a pass day may be the better choice.
