Ostrava to Prague is a straightforward direct rail journey. ČD, RegioJet and Leo Express run on the corridor, and trains leave from Ostrava hlavní nádraží or Ostrava-Svinov for Praha hlavní nádraží. Most journeys take around three and a half hours; the fastest ČD train takes 3 hours 13 minutes.

Choosing your Ostrava departure station

Check the station on your ticket before setting out. Ostrava hlavní nádraží is served by tram and trolleybus at the stop named Hlavní nádraží. Ostrava-Svinov is beside the Svinov, mosty city transport terminal, with tram and city bus connections. Both stations are on the main line towards Prague, but a particular train may call at only one of them.

Ostrava hlavní nádraží is the useful choice for the city centre and northern districts. Ostrava-Svinov can be more convenient for Poruba and western Ostrava. Allow time to reach the correct station, especially if your booking names Ostrava-Svinov rather than Ostrava hl. n.

Direct trains and journey time

ČD operates direct SuperCity Pendolino and InterCity trains via Olomouc and Pardubice. The fastest ČD train, the SuperCity Pendolino, takes 3 hours 13 minutes, and ČD runs 16 daily connections. Other departures take longer, so a typical journey is around three and a half hours.

RegioJet runs direct trains between Ostrava and Prague via Olomouc and Pardubice. Leo Express also runs direct trains via Olomouc and Pardubice to Praha hlavní nádraží, with multiple departures from Ostrava. A direct train means no change is needed between Ostrava and Prague.

The operators use slightly different stopping patterns and departure stations. Keep the exact station and arrival time from your booking, because not every service leaves from Ostrava hl. n. or runs at the fastest time.

Reservations, tickets and passes

ČD SuperCity Pendolino and InterCity trains on this route require a seat reservation. The reservation is free when you buy your ticket on the ČD website or app, and you can choose your seat. At a ticket office it costs 35 Kč.

ČD, RegioJet and Leo Express all accept Interrail in Czechia. RegioJet requires reservations on its Prague, Pardubice, Olomouc and Ostrava corridor, at €1.30 to €2.80 depending on class. With a pass, a ČD SuperCity reservation costs €2.90 in 2nd class or €5.15 in 1st class. Leo Express reservations are free but must be made before boarding. For a pass journey, add the train to your pass and arrange the operator's required reservation before you go.

A rail pass does not remove the need to reserve a seat on ČD SuperCity or InterCity, RegioJet services on this corridor, or Leo Express. If your chosen departure is full, use another direct departure rather than boarding without the required reservation.

Arriving at Praha hlavní nádraží

Praha hlavní nádraží is in central Prague near Wenceslas Square. Metro line C stops at Hlavní nádraží, and trams 5, 9, 15 and 26 serve the station area. Airport Express buses also leave from outside the station. From the concourse, follow signs to the metro for the quickest start in the city, or walk towards Wenceslas Square and the New Town.

If you are continuing across Prague, leave time to find the metro or tram platform and to walk through the station hall with luggage. Most direct services arrive at Praha hlavní nádraží, and some Leo Express departures also call at Praha-Libeň, so use the station shown on your ticket.

Planning the journey

ČD Pendolino or the fastest InterCity is the quickest choice. RegioJet and Leo Express are useful alternatives when their departure time, station call or reservation availability fits better. Keep the reservation with the ticket or pass, and arrive at the Ostrava station named in the itinerary.

There is no routine change on this corridor. If disruption forces a change or replacement transport, follow the operator's instructions for the specific train and retain your ticket until you reach Prague.
