InterCityLyn or InterCity
Take the InterCityLyn unless its times do not suit you. In the 2026 timetable it leaves Aarhus H once an hour through the day and runs direct, calling at Skanderborg, Horsens, Vejle, Fredericia and Odense before København H. It is the quickest train on the route.
The InterCity fills the gaps, so daytime service is roughly two trains an hour. It stops more often, at places such as Nyborg, Slagelse and Roskilde, and takes a little over 3 hours. On many InterCity departures you change trains at Fredericia. Pick the InterCityLyn if you want one seat all the way.
DSB runs more than 30 departures a day on this route, and both train types have Standard seating and DSB 1', the first-class section.
Arriving in Copenhagen
København H is the stop for the city centre. InterCityLyn trains then continue to CPH Lufthavn, the Copenhagen Airport station, so for a flight you can stay on board. Most InterCity trains carry on instead to Nørreport and Østerport. That can save a change if you are staying north of the centre.
Fares and seat reservations
DSB Orange fares from Aarhus to Copenhagen start from DKK 119. They go on sale about two months ahead, are valid only on the departure you pick, and cannot be changed or refunded. Numbers are limited, and off-peak trains have the most.
A Standard ticket costs more, but it covers any train on your travel day. Orange Fri is cheaper than Standard and refundable up to 30 minutes before departure. On a Standard ticket, an adult can bring up to two children under 12 free.
Seat reservations are optional and cost DKK 30 whatever the distance. DSB recommends one on InterCity and InterCityLyn trains because seats can run short. Book one if you are travelling as a group and want to sit together, bearing in mind that a reservation bought with an Orange ticket is non-refundable too.
Track works in autumn 2026
Banedanmark is rebuilding Aarhus H, and trains to and from the station run with timetable changes until December 2026. On Zealand, track renewal means InterCity trains run at altered times between Ringsted and København H from 10 to 16 October 2026, and some do not stop at Sorø. Look up your exact train in the DSB app the day before you travel.
