Flytoget

Flytoget is the express train that connects Oslo Airport Gardermoen with central Oslo, with departures every 10 minutes for most of the day. The ride is short enough that you barely sit down before the announcement for your stop.

Where Flytoget runs

Trains run from the airport through Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) and on to Nationaltheatret and Skøyen, with some continuing to Lysaker, Sandvika, Asker or Drammen. The fastest trains reach Oslo S in 19 minutes. Skøyen, the third stop, takes 29 minutes. At the airport the platform is easy to find. It is always Track 3, and the train's silvery grey, plane-like design stands out from everything else on the concourse.

Oslo S is the natural transfer point for onward rail travel, with trains heading south toward Halden and Gothenburg and west toward Skien, Stavanger or Bergen. In the city centre, Oslo S connects to the underground, bus and tram. Nationaltheatret is within walking distance of the Royal Palace and Aker Brygge, but the station has three exits, so ask staff which one to use if you are unsure.

Tickets and fares

A single adult ticket from the airport costs NOK 268 to Oslo S, Nationaltheatret, Skøyen or Lysaker, NOK 308 to Sandvika or Asker, and NOK 324 to Drammen. Seniors, students, youth aged 16 to 20 and military personnel travel at half price with valid ID. Children under 16 travel free with an adult over 16, and need no ticket or ID to pass through the barriers.

Buy tickets through the Flytoget app, the website, a station ticket machine, or by tapping a payment card on the reader before boarding. Return tickets stay valid for 90 days and can be used on any departure in that window, which suits anyone without a fixed return date. A Flytoget ticket only covers Flytoget services, not other Oslo public transport.

At the airport and onboard

Arriving on an international flight, turn right after customs to find the Flytoget signs and countdown board. Domestic arrivals reach the platform down the escalator, with ticket machines and card readers at the gates. Onboard there is free wifi, plug sockets and plenty of seating. Passengers can also print their baggage tag on the train before arriving at the airport, which skips one queue at check-in.

Practical tips

The Kiss and Fly ticket lets someone accompany a traveller to the airport and return within three hours for free. Trains run every 10 minutes for most of the day, so there is rarely a need to plan around a specific slot. It still helps to check timings before an early or late flight, when departures can thin out.
