Two SNCF services run between Lyon and Toulouse. Choose TGV INOUI when journey time matters. Switch to Intercités if you want a lower fare or need to stop at a smaller station along the route.

SNCF TGV INOUI

TGV INOUI is SNCF’s high-speed service. It runs at up to 320 km/h on dedicated high-speed track, which covers roughly 40% of the Lyon to Toulouse route. Connecting services

Station details

Most direct trains leave from Lyon Part-Dieu, which is well placed in central Lyon with direct access to metro line D and several tram routes. Some connecting services use Lyon Perrache (also central, on metro line A) or Lyon Saint-Exupery TGV, which is at the airport. Not all direct trains stop at the airport station. If you need to depart from or arrive via the airport, check the timetable before booking rather than assuming the stop is there.

The arrival station in Toulouse is Toulouse-Matabiau. Metro line A runs from Marengo-SNCF station, which is directly alongside the main station building. The city centre is around five minutes away.

Day travel

The first trains from Lyon Part-Dieu towards Toulouse leave from around 06:30 to 07:00. The last direct TGV INOUI typically departs by around 19:00 to 19:30. Later trains exist, running until around 22:00, but these involve at least one change. Check the full itinerary before booking a late train.

Seat reservation costs

Seat reservations are included in the full ticket price for TGV INOUI and Intercités. You do not pay extra for a seat when buying a standard SNCF ticket. Changes and refunds

TGV INOUI Free exchanges up to 7 days before departure. Within 6 days, a change fee of around €19 per ticket applies. Up to two same-day exchanges are allowed until 30 minutes before departure, but the ticket becomes non-refundable after the first same-day exchange. Cheaper advance fares may have stricter conditions than flexible fares, so check the terms at the point of purchase.

Intercités Free exchanges up to 7 days before departure. Within 6 days, the charge is 40% of the ticket price, up to a maximum of around €15. Changes must be completed before the train departs.

If SNCF cancels a train due to a strike or major disruption, conditions are usually more flexible. Contact SNCF Connect or speak to staff at the station if that happens.

Using Interrail passes

Interrail and Eurail passes are valid on TGV INOUI and Intercités services between Lyon and Toulouse.

Reservations for pass holders

TGV INOUI requires a mandatory seat reservation for all passengers, including pass holders. The reservation costs between €10 and €20 per person, depending on the class and booking channel. Do not assume the pass covers everything. The reservation fee is separate and must be paid before you travel.
