All trains from Brașov to Bucharest run direct to București Nord, and the quickest InterCity takes about 2 hours 15 minutes for the 166 km.

Who runs the trains

Most departures belong to CFR Călători, the state operator. Astra Trans Carpatic and Transferoviar Călători each add a few InterRegio trains a day, and Softrans runs two RegioExpres trains. That gives you roughly one train an hour, from an overnight train at 03:37 to the last evening departure at about 20:00. None of them needs a change.

Which train to take

For the fastest trip, book the InterCity (IC). It calls only at Ploiești Vest. InterRegio (IR) trains take about 2 hours 30 minutes, most of them stopping at Predeal, Azuga, Bușteni, Sinaia and Câmpina on the way down the Prahova valley.

Regio Expres trains, including the two Softrans trains, take between about 2 hours 30 and 2 hours 50 minutes. Stopping Regio (R) trains need about 3 and a half hours. They suit only the tightest budget.

Heading further west? The two Softrans trains carry on from București Nord to Craiova without you leaving the train.

Stations and the airport

Every train leaves from Brașov station and ends at București Nord, also known as Gara de Nord, the city's main station.

For a flight from Henri Coandă, change at București Nord to the CFR Călători airport train. Allow 3 to 4 hours in total. Trains on this line can run half an hour late, so build in a real margin before your flight.

Tickets and fares

Each operator sells its own tickets online, and CFR Călători and Astra Trans Carpatic also sell at the station. Buy for the train you mean to catch. CFR Călători fares depend on train type and distance, so they are the same in both directions. On the tariff valid from 14 December 2025, second class on an InterRegio costs RON 68.50 and first class RON 101.50. An InterCity costs RON 78.50 in second class and RON 117.00 in first.

The seat reservation is compulsory on IC and IR trains. It adds RON 6.50 and comes automatically with the ticket. Regio trains are much cheaper, at RON 37.00 in second class, and most of them also carry a compulsory RON 4.50 reservation.

Running late for a private train? Astra Trans Carpatic sells tickets on board at the standard price while places last, and Softrans also takes payment on board.

Interrail passes

Interrail passes are valid on CFR Călători trains. You still need a reservation for IC and IR trains, and for most Regio trains on this line. Through Interrail's online self-service an InterRegio reservation costs €1.20 plus a €2 administration fee per person per train, or you can reserve at a station ticket office in Romania. Do not count on the pass for the private operators. Buy a normal ticket for an Astra Trans Carpatic, Softrans or Transferoviar Călători train.

Timetable from 13 December 2026

Romania's yearly timetable change falls on 13 December 2026, and the current Softrans trains are scheduled only until the day before. Times, and possibly fares, may differ from 13 December 2026, so look up your train again if you travel after that.
