Lokaltog

Lokaltog is Denmark's largest local railway company, running 10 regional lines across Zealand and Lolland-Falster with more than 600 employees. In 2025 it carried 9.6 million passengers over roughly 335 kilometres of track that Lokaltog itself owns and maintains, across more than 100 stations.

Where Lokaltog runs

The network covers 10 named lines: 110R/210R Østbanen, 410 Tølløsebanen, 510R Odsherredsbanen, 710R Lollandsbanen, 910 Nærumbanen, 920R/E Frederiksværkbanen, 930R Lille Nord, 940R Hornbækbanen, and the two Gribskovbanen branches, 950R between Hillerød and Gilleleje and 960R between Hillerød and Tisvildeleje. Together they link commuter towns and coastal destinations across Zealand, with the Lollandsbanen line running separately between Nykøbing F and Nakskov.

Buying a ticket

A valid ticket or checked-in card is needed before boarding; Lokaltog trains have no onboard sale. A Basiskort or the Rejsekort app works on every line, and the Rejsebillet app sells single tickets, commuter cards, youth cards, business cards and City Pass. Ticket machines are also available at set stations on four lines: Roskilde, Gadstrup, Havdrup, Lille Skensved, Ølby, Køge, Hårlev, Karise, Faxe Ladeplads, St. Heddinge and Rødvig on Østbanen; Tølløse, Dianalund and Slagelse on Tølløsebanen; Nykøbing Sj., Højby Sj., Asnæs and Holbæk on Odsherredsbanen; and Nakskov, Søllested, Maribo, Sakskøbing and Nykøbing F on Lollandsbanen. Those machines take coins, Dankort, Mastercard (excluding Mastercard Debit) and VISA Electron (excluding VISA Debit), and are shut down over New Year's Eve to prevent vandalism. Bikes on board

Bikes and scooters travel free on every Lokaltog line, in marked areas with limited space. An ordinary two-wheeled bike or e-bike is fine; trailers, longjohns, cargo bikes, fatbikes and tandem bikes are not carried. Capacity depends on the line: up to 3 bikes at each end of the train on Nærumbanen, up to 6 on Østbanen, Tølløsebanen, Odsherredsbanen and Lollandsbanen, and up to 10 on Frederiksværkbanen, Lille Nord, Hornbækbanen and the two Gribskovbanen branches. Train staff make the final call on space, and a bike may need to wait for the next departure at busy times.

Punctuality

Lokaltog ran 99.1 percent of scheduled departures in 2025, with over 93 percent of trains arriving within three minutes of schedule across its lines.
