Belfast Grand Central is the station to use for most journeys: the Enterprise to Dublin and the trains to Derry\~Londonderry, Larne, Bangor and Portadown all call there. Lanyon Place is the second station, with Glider and Metro buses outside.

## Which station to use

Belfast Grand Central, opened in September 2024, is the main station for Belfast, with trains and buses under one roof. The Enterprise to Dublin and the Portadown line start and end here. Trains from Derry\~Londonderry, Larne and Bangor call at Lanyon Place a few minutes before they reach Grand Central, so you can get off earlier if your hotel is on that side of the centre.

The Portadown line and the Enterprise do not call at Lanyon Place. If you arrive from Portadown and need Lanyon Place, change trains at Grand Central.

Older maps and some websites still show Belfast Central or Great Victoria Street. Belfast Central is the old name of Lanyon Place, and Great Victoria Street station closed when Grand Central opened.

Grand Central is open from 04:30 to 00:00, with customer support from 06:30 to 19:00 Monday to Saturday and 07:30 to 18:00 on Sunday. It is a quiet station with no audio announcements, so watch the departure screens.

## Getting into the centre

From Lanyon Place, a valid rail ticket gives you a free ride into the centre on Glider and Metro buses. The free ride applies to Lanyon Place and York Street stations only, so it does not cover a trip from Grand Central. Glider stops include Lanyon Place and Donegall Square by City Hall.

From Grand Central, City Hall is a short walk east. If you take a Metro bus, fares are £2.30 for the first journey with a contactless card, £1.70 for the second and free from the third, capped at £4.00 a day. An mLink single is also £2.30, and a one-day ticket is £4.00.

## Trains from Belfast

As of October 2026:

- Dublin Connolly: the Enterprise leaves Grand Central hourly from 06:00 to 19:00, with a last train at 21:00, Monday to Saturday (15 a day), and 8 times on Sunday, last at 20:05. It stops at Portadown, Newry, Dundalk and Drogheda and takes 2 hours 13 to 2 hours 23 minutes.
- Derry\~Londonderry: about 2 hours 15 minutes, hourly Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sunday, via Antrim, Ballymena and Coleraine.
- Coleraine: about 1 hour 35 minutes. For Portrush, change at Coleraine for the connecting train, about 12 minutes on.
- Larne Harbour: about 1 hour 5 minutes, hourly Monday to Saturday.
- Bangor: about 45 minutes, every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sunday.
- Lisburn and Portadown: about 25 and 50 minutes, around twice an hour Monday to Saturday and hourly on Sunday.

## Tickets

Translink sells NI Railways tickets from 12 ticket machines in Grand Central, in the mLink app and online. Automatic gates read the ticket, so buy before you go through. Contactless cards work for buying a rail ticket at a machine, a ticket office or from the conductor.

For the Enterprise, online fares from Belfast start at £14.99 single and £29.98 return for the Low fare, with Semi Flexible at £15.99 and £31.98 and Flexible at £16.99 and £33.98. Book up to 80 minutes before departure and collect the ticket from a machine before boarding. Ticket barriers close 2 minutes before the train leaves. Seat reservations are an option on most Enterprise trains, but the 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00 departures Monday to Saturday, run by NI Railways, have no seat reservation.

## Airports

George Best Belfast City Airport is about 10 minutes from Grand Central on the Airport Express 600, which runs every 20 minutes at peak times. Trains also stop at Sydenham, but it means crossing a footbridge and walking along the Sydenham Bypass to the terminal.

Belfast International Airport has no station. The Airport Express 300 runs from Grand Central seven days a week, every 15 minutes at peak times Monday to Friday.

## Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, the Interrail Ireland Pass and the Global Pass cover NI Railways and the Enterprise to Dublin. The Interrail Great Britain Pass covers England, Scotland and Wales only, so it is not valid on any train in Northern Ireland. No reservation is needed on any train from Belfast with a pass, including the Enterprise.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does the Enterprise to Dublin still leave from Lanyon Place?

No. The Enterprise moved to Belfast Grand Central when it opened, and no Enterprise train calls at Lanyon Place. Older sites and apps that list Belfast Central mean Lanyon Place.

### Is there a train to Belfast International Airport?

No, the airport has no station. The Airport Express 300 bus leaves from Belfast Grand Central for the terminal. Rail passengers coming from north of Antrim can add an Airlink ticket for £2.20 to use the Ulsterbus 109A to the airport.

### Can I tap a contactless card to get through the train gates?

Not as a ticket. Contactless cards pay for a rail ticket at a machine, ticket office or from the conductor, and then you scan that ticket at the gates. On Metro buses you tap your card on the driver's ticket machine. On the Glider you buy or validate your ticket at the machine at the halt before you board.

### Is there a cheap day ticket for the trains?

On Sundays the Sunday Day Tracker gives unlimited NI Railways travel for £10 for an adult and £5 for a child, with no time restrictions. Translink sells it as a promotional fare on Sundays until further notice.

### Can I get into Belfast Grand Central at night?

Yes, with a ticket. The station is open from 04:30 to 00:00. Between 00:00 and 04:30 you can enter by the night gate to the left of the main entrance if you hold a valid ticket or are buying one at a machine for a departure within one hour.
