[Strasbourg](<https://everyrail.com/france/strasbourg/>) and [Paris](<https://everyrail.com/france/paris/>) are connected by frequent direct high-speed trains on the LGV Est line, run by two SNCF brands, TGV INOUI and OUIGO. Every train arrives at Paris Gare de l'Est, not Gare du Nord, so build in extra time if you are also connecting onto Eurostar or a train from northern France.

## Strasbourg to Paris by train at a glance

| Detail | What to expect |
| --- | --- |
| Direct service | Yes, no change needed |
| Journey time | TGV INOUI about 1h45 to 1h50, OUIGO about 2h to 2h30 |
| Departure station | Strasbourg |
| Arrival station | Paris Gare de l'Est |
| Main operators | TGV INOUI (SNCF Voyageurs) and OUIGO |
| OUIGO fare from | EUR 16 per adult, EUR 8 per child |

Journey time depends on which operator you choose and which specific departure you book. TGV INOUI runs the faster scheduled trains, typically 1 hour 45 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. OUIGO Grande Vitesse makes more stops along the way, so its trains typically take 2 to 2 hours 30 minutes. Not every departure runs at the fastest pace, so treat these as typical ranges rather than a promise for your exact train.

## TGV INOUI or OUIGO: choosing your train

Two SNCF brands run this route on the same LGV Est high-speed line, and the choice comes down to what you are willing to give up for a lower fare.

TGV INOUI is the full-service option, and it is also the faster one on this route: its scheduled trains typically cover Strasbourg to Paris in around 1 hour 45 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes, against roughly 2 to 2 hours 30 minutes on OUIGO. A seat is included in every ticket, there is a cafe-bar on board, and you can choose 1st or 2nd class. Fares move with demand rather than sitting at a fixed price, so booking as soon as your date opens, typically three to four months ahead, tends to find the cheapest seats.

OUIGO is the low-cost alternative: one class only, no catering, and a smaller included luggage allowance than TGV INOUI, a bigger suitcase costs extra unless you add it when booking. OUIGO's fares for this route start from EUR 16 for adults and EUR 8 for children, the same low starting price it uses across its network, though what you actually pay for a specific departure depends on demand and how far ahead you book. Choosing your own seat, rather than accepting whatever is assigned, is a paid extra on OUIGO; it comes as standard with TGV INOUI.

Which one is better value depends on what matters most to you. OUIGO usually costs less and still gets you there the same day, but its trains typically take up to about 45 minutes longer than TGV INOUI's fastest departures, and its extras, choosing your own seat or bringing a bigger bag, cost more on top of the fare. TGV INOUI costs more to start with, but it is faster on this route, includes your seat and a normal luggage allowance in the price, and lets a group book seats together without paying extra. If the fare matters most and you are not in a hurry, OUIGO remains the cheaper way to make the trip; if the time saved or the included extras matter more, TGV INOUI is the stronger choice.

## Travelling with an Interrail or Eurail pass

Since July 2026, Interrail and Eurail passes are valid on OUIGO as well as TGV INOUI. On this route that means OUIGO Grande Vitesse trains specifically, the high-speed product that runs Strasbourg to Paris; the same July 2026 change also brought OUIGO Train Classique services elsewhere in France into pass validity, but Strasbourg to Paris runs on Grande Vitesse only. Before this change, OUIGO was excluded from pass validity entirely, so if you have older advice that says passes do not work on OUIGO, it is out of date.

A seat reservation is still compulsory on both operators for pass holders, and it costs extra on top of the pass. On TGV INOUI expect EUR 10, rising to EUR 20 once discounted places sell out, in either class. On OUIGO Grande Vitesse the reservation typically costs EUR 10, rising to EUR 20 once its own limited discounted quota sells out, and that fee includes the right to bring a larger bag, up to 90 x 130 x 50 cm, which would otherwise cost extra on a normal OUIGO ticket.

The catch is where you book it. Pass-holder reservations for OUIGO can currently only be made through the official Eurail or Interrail reservation service, not through ouigo.com, the OUIGO app, or SNCF Connect. Book your OUIGO reservation there rather than assuming you can add one when you buy an ordinary OUIGO ticket, and do it as soon as your dates are fixed, since the discounted reservation quota on popular departures can sell out.

## Paris Gare de l'Est, not Gare du Nord

Every train from Strasbourg arrives at Gare de l'Est, in the 10th arrondissement. It is a separate station from Gare du Nord, which handles Eurostar and trains from northern France and Belgium.

If you are continuing onward by Eurostar or need Gare du Nord for any other reason, allow time to cross between the two stations. They are close, an easy walk of under ten minutes, but it is still a walk between two different stations, not a same-station change. Gare de l'Est connects directly to the Paris Metro and has its own taxi rank and RER access, so onward travel across the city is straightforward either way.

## Strasbourg station

Strasbourg has a single main station, at Place de la Gare, used by all TGV INOUI and OUIGO services to Paris as well as regional TER trains toward Colmar, Mulhouse and Nancy, and city trams. It sits a short walk or tram ride from the old town, so there is no station-choice decision to make at the Strasbourg end, unlike Paris.

## Booking and fares

Neither operator publishes a single fixed fare for this route: both TGV INOUI and OUIGO price dynamically, and the cheapest tickets on any given departure are the first to sell. Book as early as your travel dates allow, and compare both operators for your date rather than assuming one is always cheaper, since the gap between them narrows the closer you book to departure.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Paris station do trains from Strasbourg use?

Every Strasbourg to Paris train arrives at Gare de l'Est, in the 10th arrondissement, not Gare du Nord. Allow extra time if you are connecting onto Eurostar or another train at Gare du Nord, since it is a separate station a short walk away.

### How long does the train from Strasbourg to Paris take?

TGV INOUI runs the faster trains on this route, typically 1 hour 45 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. OUIGO Grande Vitesse makes more stops, so its trains typically take 2 to 2 hours 30 minutes. Neither operator guarantees these times for every departure, so check the journey time shown for your exact train when you book.

### Is OUIGO cheaper than TGV INOUI on this route?

Usually. OUIGO's fares for this route start from EUR 16 for adults, against TGV INOUI's dynamic pricing with no fixed floor. In exchange, OUIGO drops 1st class, onboard catering, and free seat choice.

### Can I use an Interrail or Eurail pass on OUIGO between Strasbourg and Paris?

Yes. Since July 2026, Interrail and Eurail passes are valid on OUIGO Grande Vitesse as well as TGV INOUI. A compulsory reservation still applies and is paid separately, and it can only be booked through the official Eurail or Interrail reservation service, not through OUIGO or SNCF Connect directly.

### Do I need a seat reservation on this route?

If you buy a standard ticket from SNCF or OUIGO, the reservation is already included in the price. Only rail pass holders need to book a separate reservation, which is compulsory on both TGV INOUI and OUIGO.

### How often do trains run between Strasbourg and Paris?

There's no single combined daily total across both operators. OUIGO shows direct departures from Strasbourg around midday and in the evening, and TGV INOUI adds further direct services through the day. All of them run direct, with no change needed, so check both operators' timetables for your date to see the full schedule.
