Travel from [Rome](<https://everyrail.com/italy/rome/>) to [Venice](<https://everyrail.com/italy/venice/>) in 3 hours 34 minutes on Italo's direct high-speed trains, with two Rome departure stations and two Venice arrivals.

## Rome to Venice train at a glance

| Detail | What to expect |
| --- | --- |
| Fastest direct journey | 3 hours 34 minutes on Italo |
| Normal service | 11 Italo trains a day, with times varying by date |
| Distance | 514 km |
| Departure stations | Roma Termini or Roma Tiburtina |
| Arrival stations | Venezia Mestre or Venezia S. Lucia |
| Starting fare | From €29.90 on selected journeys |
| Train service | Italo high-speed trains |

Italo runs direct high-speed trains between Rome and Venice. The fastest service is non-stop and takes 3 hours 34 minutes, while other departures may call at intermediate stations. The normal pattern has 11 trains a day, but times, stops, and fares can change by date.

## Direct trains and route stops

The non-stop Italo service is the quickest choice when you want to stay on one train between the two cities. Other direct departures can stop at Firenze Santa Maria Novella, [Bologna](<https://everyrail.com/italy/bologna/>) Centrale, Rovigo, or Padova before reaching Venice. These are intermediate calls, not changes; your itinerary shows which stops apply to your train.

If the direct timetable does not fit, a slower or connecting itinerary may offer a better departure time. Compare the complete journey and number of changes before choosing.

## Stations and arrival choices

Italo departures use Roma Termini and Roma Tiburtina. Check your ticket for the departure station, allow time to reach it, and follow the train number shown for your journey. Roma Termini has accessibility facilities, accessible toilets, visual and audio passenger information, and Sala Blu assistance. Temporary lift closures and differences between platform and train height can affect access, so arrange assistance in advance if you need it.

Venezia S. Lucia takes you to Venice's historic island. Venezia Mestre is on the mainland and can suit a mainland stay or a connection onward. Choose the arrival station that matches your plans, especially when booking the return.

## Tickets and fares

Selected Italo Rome-to-Venice fares start at €29.90. This is a starting fare, not a guarantee for every departure. Advance fares can be useful for fixed plans, while a flexible fare may be worth considering if your schedule could change.

Your ticket is for the named departure and station. Before paying, read the change and refund conditions and make sure the itinerary matches your plans. If you switch trains later, use the fare rules for that ticket rather than assuming another departure is valid.

## Luggage and onboard comfort

In Smart class, store bags in the overhead racks, designated areas at the end of the coach, or lockers where fitted. Bags larger than 75 x 53 x 30 cm are not permitted in Smart class, although multiple items can be carried without an additional charge under the class conditions.

Prima Business and Club Executive provide more space and allow large luggage under their class conditions. All listed classes include free Wi-Fi and seats have power outlets. Choose the class whose luggage allowance suits your case instead of relying on the lowest fare.

## A Rome-to-Venice day trip

It is possible, but the journey is long. At 3 hours 34 minutes each way, the fastest train takes more than seven hours in total before you spend time in Venice. An early departure and a carefully chosen evening return can work for a short visit, but staying overnight gives you more time and less pressure around the last train.

## Before you travel

Use the itinerary for your date to confirm the departure and arrival stations, train, fare conditions, stops, and luggage allowance in one place. At the station, follow the live departure board for the platform. If you need accessibility assistance, arrange it through RFI and Italo before travel, and choose the return station separately if your plans require it.
