There is no single [Paris](<https://everyrail.com/france/paris/>) to [Toulouse](<https://everyrail.com/france/toulouse/>) train. Four different services share this corridor, and the first decision is which Paris station you need, not which train.

## Paris to Toulouse train at a glance

| Detail | What to expect |
| --- | --- |
| Fastest journey | About 4 hours 29 minutes on TGV INOUI |
| Typical fast journey | Around 4 hours 40 minutes on TGV INOUI or OUIGO |
| Slow daytime option | About 7 hours on the classic line via Limoges |
| Night train | Around 9 hours 50 minutes, Paris Austerlitz to Toulouse Matabiau |
| Departure stations | Paris Montparnasse for TGV INOUI and OUIGO; Paris Austerlitz for day and night Intercités |
| Arrival station | Toulouse Matabiau, for every operator |
| Distance | About 715 km by rail |
| Fare anchor | OUIGO from around EUR 19; TGV INOUI often from around EUR 55 to 60; night train seats from EUR 19, couchettes from EUR 29 |
| Total daily departures | Frequent, mostly direct trains through the day |

These are indicative times and example fares from the current timetable. Treat them as orientation, not a promise for your exact date.

## Pick your Paris station first

Book Paris Montparnasse if you want TGV INOUI or OUIGO. Both run the same fast route west out of Paris, calling at [Bordeaux](<https://everyrail.com/france/bordeaux/>) Saint-Jean before continuing on to Toulouse. Book Paris Austerlitz instead if you want an Intercités train, whether that is the slower daytime service or the overnight sleeper. Montparnasse and Austerlitz sit on opposite sides of the city, with no quick walk between them. Get this wrong and you have missed your train. If a booking page just says "Paris," open the train details and confirm the station before you pay.

## TGV INOUI and OUIGO: the fast route from Montparnasse

TGV INOUI is the full-service option, at up to 320 km/h, with a bar car, free Wi-Fi, and a choice of Standard, First, or the fully flexible OPTIMUM class. The fastest departures skip Agen and Montauban and reach Toulouse Matabiau from Montparnasse in about 4 hours 29 minutes; most others call at both and take closer to 4 hours 40 minutes.

OUIGO runs the identical physical route at similar speeds, but strips the service back to cut the price. The base OUIGO ESSENTIEL fare includes one carry-on and one hand bag; OUIGO PLUS costs an extra EUR 9 and adds seat choice, an extra bag, and Wi-Fi through OUIFI or OUIFUN. Children aged 4 to 11 travel for a flat EUR 8, and those under 4 travel free on a parent's lap; a pet costs EUR 10 regardless of size. On OUIGO, a folded bike in a travel cover costs EUR 5; on TGV INOUI the same folded bike travels free, while a full-size bike with a reserved space costs EUR 10. Neither operator guarantees its lowest advertised fare on every date; the cheapest OUIGO seats around EUR 19 sell out first, so book as soon as your travel date opens if price matters more than flexibility.

## The night train from Austerlitz

The Intercités de nuit leaves Paris Austerlitz in the evening, around 20:53 on a typical departure, and reaches Toulouse Matabiau by about 06:44 the next morning. There are few or no stops between roughly midnight and 05:30, so you genuinely get an uninterrupted night rather than a string of platform announcements. A separate overnight Intercités runs from Paris Austerlitz to Latour-de-Carol in the Pyrenees, on a different routing south through Foix and Ax-les-Thermes; it does not call at Toulouse Matabiau, so book the Paris-Toulouse service specifically if Toulouse is your destination.

Choose a seat from EUR 19 if you just want to save a hotel night and can sleep sitting up. Step up to a six-berth second class couchette from EUR 29, or a four-berth first class couchette from EUR 39, if you actually want to lie down. A women-only compartment is free to request when booking. If you want the whole compartment to yourselves, private compartments start at EUR 150 in second class and EUR 180 in first, and first class couchette passengers get a free shower at both Austerlitz and Toulouse Matabiau on arrival. Pets travel in the seating car for a fee or free in a private compartment, but they are not allowed in a shared couchette.

## The slower day option via Limoges

A daytime Intercités also runs from Paris Austerlitz, on the classic line through Limoges, Brive-la-Gaillarde, and Cahors rather than the high-speed line through Bordeaux. It takes around 7 hours, roughly 2 hours 30 minutes longer than the fast route, and calls at more than ten stations along the way. It rarely comes out cheaper than TGV INOUI or OUIGO once you add up the full fare, so book it for the route itself, through the Limousin and Quercy countryside, rather than to save money.

## Rail passes and reservations

Since July 2026, Interrail and Eurail passes are valid on OUIGO trains in France, including this corridor, covering both OUIGO Grande Vitesse and OUIGO Train Classique services. This does not make OUIGO free to pass holders: a seat reservation is still compulsory, exactly as it is on TGV INOUI, and it costs EUR 10 on top of the pass, rising to EUR 20 once a limited passholder quota sells out. Crucially, that reservation can currently only be booked through the official Eurail or Interrail reservation service, not through ouigo.com, the OUIGO app, or SNCF Connect, so do not expect to add it at the point of an ordinary ticket purchase. Reservations are also compulsory on TGV INOUI and generally required on Intercités couchettes and private compartments.

## Check for engineering work before you book

SNCF Réseau has been running a programme of weekend and multi-day closures on the Toulouse to Montauban section through 2026, part of the Aménagements Ferroviaires au Nord de Toulouse groundwork for a future Bordeaux to Toulouse high-speed line that has not yet opened. A 150-hour closure is reported for 21 to 27 November 2026. If your travel dates fall near a scheduled closure, confirm your exact train with SNCF Connect before booking, since these works are announced in stages and can affect Intercités and TGV INOUI departures differently.

## Frequently asked questions

### Which Paris station do I need for the train to Toulouse?

Paris Montparnasse for TGV INOUI and OUIGO, or Paris Austerlitz for the daytime and overnight Intercités trains. Always confirm the exact station on your ticket, since Montparnasse and Austerlitz are on opposite sides of the city.

### Is there a night train from Paris to Toulouse?

Yes. The Intercités de nuit leaves Paris Austerlitz in the evening and arrives at Toulouse Matabiau by around 06:44 the next morning, with seats from EUR 19 and couchettes from EUR 29.

### How long does the train from Paris to Toulouse take?

About 4 hours 29 minutes on the fastest TGV INOUI. Most TGV INOUI and OUIGO trains take closer to 4 hours 40 minutes, the daytime Intercités via Limoges takes around 7 hours, and the night train takes about 9 hours 50 minutes.

### Can I use an Interrail or Eurail pass on OUIGO to Toulouse?

Yes, since July 2026. You still need a compulsory paid reservation, from EUR 10 rising to EUR 20 once a limited quota sells out, bookable only through the official Eurail or Interrail reservation service rather than through OUIGO or SNCF Connect directly.

### How much does the train from Paris to Toulouse cost?

OUIGO fares can start from around EUR 19 for the cheapest seats, TGV INOUI is often from around EUR 55 to 60, and the night train starts from EUR 19 for a seat or EUR 29 for a couchette. These are promotional starting fares that sell out first, so book early if price matters most.
