The [Monaco](<https://everyrail.com/monaco/monaco/>) to [Nice](<https://everyrail.com/france/nice/>) train is a short, frequent coastal hop: direct TER services link Monaco Monte-Carlo and Nice-Ville in about 22 to 24 minutes.

## Monaco to Nice train at a glance

| Detail | What to expect |
| --- | --- |
| Journey time | About 22 to 24 minutes, direct |
| Frequency | About 60 trains a day, roughly every 10 to 20 minutes, with a longer gap around midday; first around 06:17, last around 23:03 |
| Departure station | Monaco Monte-Carlo |
| Arrival station | Nice-Ville |
| Starting fare | From EUR 7 in second class (ZOU!, selected trains and dates) |
| Operator | TER Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, run by SNCF Voyageurs |

## Direct trains, close together most of the day

This is one of the easiest short hops on the French Riviera. About 60 direct trains a day keep departures close together, roughly every 10 to 20 minutes, apart from a gap of close to an hour around midday. Outside that window, turn up with a valid ticket and you are set.

The train hugs the coast the whole way, calling at Cap-d'Ail, Èze, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice Riquier before Nice-Ville. It is a genuinely scenic ride for a journey this short, with the sea visible for long stretches. If you miss your train, do not panic and do not rebook: TER and ZOU! tickets are valid on another train the same day, as long as you keep to the same date, route and fare conditions.

## Monaco Monte-Carlo to Nice-Ville

Board at Monaco Monte-Carlo, the principality's only station. It is underground, with several named exits scattered across the city, among them Monte-Carlo, La Condamine and Fontvieille, each opening onto a different district, so it pays to read the exit signs rather than follow the crowd out of the first one.

Nice is different. The city has three SNCF stations plus a separate mountain line terminus, and this direct coastal service arrives at Nice-Ville, the main one. If you are booking through a site that only shows "Nice" as a destination, open the train details and confirm the station reads Nice-Ville before you pay, especially if your hotel or onward connection is near a different stop.

## Buying and validating your ticket

Book through the SNCF Connect app or website, or buy from a machine at the station; both work well for a trip this short and you do not need to book far ahead. There is no seat reservation on these regional trains, so any valid ticket for the date and route gets you on board.

Buy an e-ticket through the app and you can skip the platform validation step entirely, since it is not required for tickets held on your phone. A paper ticket needs validating before you board. Either way, travel without a valid, validated ticket and you risk an on-the-spot fine. Unpaid fines rise to between EUR 180 and EUR 375 after three months, so it is not worth chancing a 20-minute ride to save the price of a ticket that starts from EUR 7.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there a direct train from Monaco to Nice?

Yes. TER Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur runs direct trains from Monaco Monte-Carlo to Nice-Ville with no changes, about 60 a day and roughly every 10 to 20 minutes outside a longer gap around midday.

### How long does the train from Monaco to Nice take?

### How much does the Monaco to Nice train cost?

Second-class fares start from EUR 7 under the ZOU! fare brand, though this is a limited starting price on selected trains and dates rather than every departure.

### Which station in Nice do I need for the train from Monaco?

This direct service arrives at Nice-Ville, the city's main station. Nice has other stations too, so if a booking site only shows "Nice", open the train details and confirm it says Nice-Ville before you pay.

### What happens if I board without a valid ticket?

You risk an on-the-spot fine. If it goes unpaid for three months, the amount rises to between EUR 180 and EUR 375, so it is worth buying and, if it is a paper ticket, validating it before you board.
