Countries

No direct train runs from [Milan](<https://everyrail.com/italy/milan/>) to [Nice](<https://everyrail.com/france/nice/>). The usual journey is an Intercity to Ventimiglia, then a TER regional train across the border.

## Milan to Ventimiglia by Intercity

Several [Trenitalia](<https://everyrail.com/italy/trenitalia/>) Intercity trains a day run from Milano Centrale to Ventimiglia in about four hours. They go through Pavia and Voghera to Genova Piazza Principe, then follow the Ligurian coast through Savona, Albenga, Imperia, Sanremo and Bordighera. There is no change at Genova. Slower regional trains that split the trip at Genova also exist, but the Intercity is simpler.

## Ventimiglia to Nice by TER

TER regional trains link Ventimiglia to Nice-Ville about 30 times a day in each direction, calling at Menton and Monaco on the way. The ride takes around an hour. The Intercity and the TER are separate services, so leave a sensible gap at Ventimiglia.

## Tickets

The Intercity ticket ends at Ventimiglia. The TER leg is a separate ticket, with a full fare of €10.60 one way.

## Night-time works

Until 11 December 2026, no trains run between Nice and Ventimiglia from 22:00 to 06:00 on Sunday to Thursday nights. A coach replaces the train between Ventimiglia and Monaco, and ZOU! buses are reinforced between Menton and Nice. Friday and Saturday nights are not affected. From Sunday to Thursday, aim to reach Ventimiglia by early evening so you can finish the trip by train.

Allow about six hours from Milan to Nice, including the change.
