The fastest direct journeys take about 1h 43m and the average trip takes about 2h 14m. On a normal planning day, departures run from about 06:04 to 21:04, with around 35 trains available. The exact number, time, and duration depend on the date, service, and station pair.

## Direct trains and operators

[SNCF Voyageurs](<https://everyrail.com/france/sncf-voyageurs/>) operates TGV INOUI and OUIGO services on the Lyon to Paris corridor. TGV INOUI is the full-service high-speed option, while OUIGO offers a lower base fare with a smaller included baggage allowance and paid extras. TER can appear when a regional connection or a different routing is part of the itinerary.

Trenitalia France also operates Frecciarossa services on the Lyon to Paris corridor when scheduled. Direct services can therefore use TGV INOUI, OUIGO, or Frecciarossa, while an itinerary with a change may include TER. Choose by the complete journey, including the connection and station, rather than by the headline fare alone.

## Stations in Lyon and Paris

Lyon Part-Dieu is the main departure station for the direct city-centre service. Some trains leave from Lyon Perrache, while Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV is an airport station outside central Lyon. If Saint-Exupéry is on your ticket, allow extra time to reach it from the city. Use the station printed on your booking rather than heading to Part-Dieu by default.

Paris Gare de Lyon is the usual city-centre arrival. Some services arrive at Marne-la-Vallée Chessy or Paris Bercy Bourgogne Pays d'Auvergne instead. Marne-la-Vallée Chessy is convenient for Disneyland Paris but is not central Paris. Paris Bercy is a different station from Gare de Lyon, so plan your Metro, RER, bus, or taxi connection from the actual arrival point.

At the station, read the departure board for the platform and train number. Keep your ticket available offline, particularly if you will make an onward connection in Paris.

## Tickets and fares

Selected journeys are available from 10 euros. This is a limited starting fare for specific trains and dates, not a typical price. Fares vary with the date, train, booking time, class, and remaining availability. Compare the total fare and its exchange or refund conditions before paying.

OUIGO tickets are built around a lower base price. Seat choice, extra or oversized luggage, and a folded bike are paid options unless they are included in OUIGO PLUS. Read the allowance and conditions attached to your exact train before you choose the cheapest fare.

Booking when your dates are firm can give you a wider choice of departures and restricted fares. If your plans may change, a more flexible fare can be better value. Rail passes and discount cards have service-specific rules, including possible reservation or supplement requirements.

## Luggage, bikes, pets, and onboard details

A TGV INOUI ticket includes up to two larger bags, each no more than 70 x 90 x 50 cm, plus one hand-baggage item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. OUIGO includes one cabin bag up to 55 x 35 x 25 cm and one hand-baggage item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm. Larger or additional bags require the relevant option.

OUIGO accepts a folded or dismantled bike in a bag up to 130 x 90 cm and 30 kg for a 5 euro option. TGV INOUI has separate bike conditions, so select the correct option and follow the dimensions for your service. Pet rules also differ: on OUIGO, an animal costs 10 euros; a pet under 6 kg travels in a carrier no larger than 55 x 35 x 25 cm, while a larger animal needs a lead and muzzle.

TGV INOUI provides onboard Wi-Fi, power at seats, adjustable seats, luggage storage, and a bar car. OUIGO facilities and extras depend on the offer, so choose a fare that covers the services and baggage you need.

## Before you leave Lyon

Use your booking to confirm the departure station, arrival station, train category, departure time, and booked options. On travel day, allow time to reach Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV if required, or to find the correct hall at Lyon Part-Dieu. Keep the ticket and journey details accessible offline.

If you are connecting after arriving in Paris, leave a sensible margin. A late high-speed train can affect the rest of your itinerary, especially when you need to cross the city between stations.

## Choosing the train for Lyon to Paris

A direct high-speed train can take you into central Paris without an airport transfer, and the journey is short enough for a day trip or weekend. Rail is especially convenient when your accommodation is near Gare de Lyon. Compare the full door-to-door time and fare if you are considering a flight, bus, or departure from Lyon Saint-Exupéry.
