# Krakow to Warsaw by train

PKP Intercity serves Kraków Główny and Warsaw, with EIP Pendolino and other trains; Warszawa Centralna is the main city-centre option.

A Kraków to [Warsaw](<https://everyrail.com/poland/warsaw/>) train trip is easiest to plan around the exact [PKP Intercity](<https://everyrail.com/poland/pkp-intercity/>) departure: stations, journey time, fare, and seat conditions all vary by date.

## Krakow to Warsaw train at a glance

PKP Intercity is the operator on this corridor. EIP Pendolino is generally the fastest category when it is offered, although another Intercity service may better match your timing, class, or budget. There is no single fixed journey time, stop pattern, or frequency: services and fares vary with the travel date. Some departures are direct, while others require a change.

The complete itinerary matters more than the service label alone. The number of changes, arrival time, class, seat details, and ticket conditions can all affect which train is the practical choice.

## Choose the right stations

Kraków Główny is the main city-centre departure station. In Warsaw, Warszawa Centralna is the principal long-distance arrival to consider first, but journeys can also use Warszawa Wschodnia, Warszawa Zachodnia, or another city station. Booking systems use the Polish spellings, including accents, so the exact station name matters.

The station printed on the ticket is particularly important with a hotel booking, airport connection, or another train to catch. Kraków Główny is busy, with the bus terminal and a shopping centre nearby; allow time to find the train number, platform, and coach. At Warszawa Centralna, the boards show the train number and destination. Platform information can change close to departure, and a train may continue beyond Warsaw even when Warsaw is one of its stops.

## EIP Pendolino and other Intercity services

EIP, also known as Pendolino, is PKP Intercity’s premium high-speed category on selected Polish corridors. It suits travellers who value a shorter journey, but the duration and number of stops depend on the departure. Another PKP Intercity service may leave at a more useful time, cost less, or offer a better class. A slower train can still be the practical option if it avoids a long wait or fits an onward connection.

Timetable periods, weekends, public holidays, and engineering work can all change the service pattern. The route therefore has no dependable one-size-fits-all schedule; the departure available for the chosen date is the one that matters.

## Tickets, seats, and booking

For a booking, the fare reflects the selected train, class, availability, and ticket conditions. The total price appears in Polish złoty, alongside the relevant change and refund terms. PKP Intercity sells tickets through its current booking channels and authorised sellers. An e-ticket kept offline leaves the train number, station names, and seat information available during the journey.

Long-distance Polish trains commonly use assigned seating when a reservation is part of the ticket. EIP and other services are not generally open-seat travel: the coach, seat, and class printed for the selected service determine where you sit. A rail pass may still require a train-specific reservation or supplement.

## Practical details on the journey

Kraków Główny can have several trains leaving close together, so allow enough time for the departure board, platform, and coach. The train’s final destination may differ from Warsaw even when it calls there; the train number and destination on the board should match the ticket. Keep standard luggage out of doorways and aisles, and keep valuables with you.

Bikes, pets, unusually large items, accessibility assistance, and family discounts can have service-specific conditions. Those requirements are best settled with the exact train rather than assumed from the route. On arrival, Warszawa Centralna places you in the central city area, while the Old Town, airport, and other districts require local transport or a walk. Leave a margin for a flight or another long-distance connection.

## If the train does not fit

A coach can be a lower-cost fallback, but road traffic can make its arrival less predictable and its departure or arrival point may be farther from the city centre. A flight may be short in the air but adds airport transfers, check-in, and security at both ends. The door-to-door journey is a better comparison than the headline travel time.

When rail remains the preference, a different PKP Intercity departure on the same date may solve a fare, timing, or station problem without changing the mode of transport.

## Before you travel

Near departure, the ticket should still match the date, departure and arrival stations, train number, service category, coach, seat, and any service notice. Keep it available offline and allow time for a platform change. For the return journey, the exact Warsaw station for the accommodation and train keeps the trip predictable when the timetable changes.
