# Brussels to Berlin by train

Daytime trains take about 6h39 with one change in Cologne; European Sleeper runs direct overnight to Berlin Hbf six times a week.

Origin

[Brussels](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/brussels/>)

Destination

[Berlin](<https://everyrail.com/germany/berlin/>)

Main stations

Bruxelles-Midi to Berlin Hbf

Countries

[Belgium](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/>), [Germany](<https://everyrail.com/germany/>)

A daytime Eurostar or ICE connection via Köln Hbf reaches [Berlin](<https://everyrail.com/germany/berlin/>) Hbf in about 6 hours 39 minutes; European Sleeper runs direct overnight.

## Daytime trains via Cologne

The practical daytime route starts at Bruxelles-Midi and runs to Köln Hbf on Eurostar or ICE. The journey to [Cologne](<https://everyrail.com/germany/cologne/>) takes about 1 hour 51 minutes. Change there for a high-speed ICE to Berlin Hbf, which takes around 4 hours 20 minutes. The change stays within Köln Hbf, so you do not need to cross the city.

Daytime services follow this pattern. The fastest journey is about 6 hours 39 minutes, but the total depends on the connection you choose. Berlin Hbf is the useful arrival station for central Berlin and onward trains.

## The direct night train

European Sleeper runs a direct night train from Bruxelles-Midi to Berlin Hbf six times a week. It leaves in the evening and arrives in Berlin city centre in the morning, so it removes the Cologne change and can replace a hotel night. Choose Budget, a shared or private Classic compartment, or Comfort when the sleeping arrangement matters more than the lowest fare.

Shared Classic tickets start at €69.99 one way per person. Prices vary with the date and route. An Interrail or European Sleeper Pass does not replace the required reservation: select the pass-holder option and book the reservation for the class you want.

## Stations and booking timing

Day trains leave from Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid and normally arrive at Berlin Hbf after the change in Cologne. Eurostar recommends arriving at [Brussels](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/brussels/>)-Midi at least 20 minutes before its scheduled departure. Allow enough time at Köln Hbf to change platforms, especially if you are travelling with luggage.

For travel after 12 December 2026, ICE journeys are due to open for booking on 14 October 2026 under the mid-December timetable change. Check the exact itinerary when those dates open.

## Which train should you choose?

Choose the daytime route if you want to arrive the same day and prefer a conventional seat. Choose European Sleeper when avoiding a daytime journey or a Cologne change matters more than the overnight format. Both options use Berlin Hbf, but only the sleeper is direct.
