# Berlin to Brussels by train

Daytime trains take about 7 to 8 hours with a change, usually in Cologne; European Sleeper runs direct overnight from Berlin Hbf six times a week.

Origin

[Berlin](<https://everyrail.com/germany/berlin/>)

Destination

[Brussels](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/brussels/>)

Main stations

Berlin Hbf to Bruxelles-Midi

Countries

[Germany](<https://everyrail.com/germany/>), [Belgium](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/>)

Travel by day with a change in [Cologne](<https://everyrail.com/germany/cologne/>), or choose European Sleeper for a direct overnight run from [Berlin](<https://everyrail.com/germany/berlin/>) Hbf to Bruxelles-Midi.

## Daytime trains via Cologne

Allow around 7 to 8 hours for the daytime journey from Berlin Hbf to Bruxelles-Midi. The fastest current example takes 7 hours 22 minutes, but connection times mean other departures take longer. The journey needs at least one change, with Cologne the practical interchange for the ICE journey from Berlin and the Eurostar or ICE leg to [Brussels](<https://everyrail.com/belgium/brussels/>).

Arrive at Köln Hbf with enough time to change platforms. The onward Eurostar from Köln Hbf to Brussels takes about 1 hour 50 minutes and arrives at Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid. Daytime timings depend on the connection, so the fastest itinerary is not available on every date.

## The direct night train

European Sleeper runs a direct night train from Berlin Hbf to Brussels city centre six times a week. It leaves Berlin in the evening and arrives in Brussels in the morning, avoiding the Cologne change and making the overnight journey part of the travel day. Choose Budget, a shared or private Classic compartment, or Comfort when a proper sleeping space matters more than the lowest fare.

Shared Classic tickets start at €69.99 one way per person. Prices vary with the date and route. An Interrail or European Sleeper Pass does not replace the required reservation: select the pass-holder option and book the reservation for the class you want.

## Stations and booking timing

Daytime journeys normally leave Berlin Hbf, change at Köln Hbf and arrive at Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid. The direct night train uses Berlin Hbf and Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid. On the Eurostar leg, arrive at least 20 minutes before the scheduled departure; the key planning point is the connection in Cologne.

For travel after 12 December 2026, ICE journeys are due to open for booking on 14 October 2026 under the mid-December timetable change. Check the exact itinerary when those dates open.

## Which train should you choose?

Choose the daytime route if you want to arrive the same day and prefer a conventional seat. Choose European Sleeper when avoiding a daytime journey or a Cologne change matters more than the overnight format. Both options use the main stations in Berlin and Brussels, but only the sleeper is direct.
