Passenger operators

Vigo Urzáiz is the station for [Madrid](<https://everyrail.com/spain/madrid/>), [Barcelona](<https://everyrail.com/spain/barcelona/>), Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña and Ourense, and the right choice for almost every journey. Vigo Guixar takes slower Regional trains and the Ourense and Porto connections, partly by road until the track works end.

## Which station to use

Vigo Urzáiz, open every day from 05:15 to 00:00, has [Renfe](<https://everyrail.com/spain/renfe/>)'s AVE, Avlo and Alvia trains and the fast Media Distancia trains to Pontevedra, Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. Vigo Guixar is open Monday to Friday from 04:30 to 23:50 and on weekends and holidays from 06:30 to 23:50. Vitrasa line 24 links the two stations, stopping at both, and continues to Rúa de Policarpo Sanz in the centre.

## From Vigo Urzáiz into the centre

The old town, around Porta do Sol and Praza da Constitución, lies north-west of the station, towards the waterfront. From the stop at the station wall on Rúa de Urzáiz, lines A, 5A, 9B, 15B and 15C run to Praza de Compostela and Rúa de Policarpo Sanz, the stops for the walk to Porta do Sol, with a bus about every 5 minutes on weekdays. Lines A, 5A, 15B and 15C also stop at the Estación Marítima, the passenger port; on Sundays and holidays take the 15C. A single ticket costs €1.63 in 2026, paid to the driver; have the exact amount if you pay cash, as change is given up to €10.

## Santiago, A Coruña, Pontevedra and Ourense

Media Distancia trains for Santiago and A Coruña leave Urzáiz at 06:34, 08:00, 09:05, 10:40, 13:15, 16:30, 17:40, 18:15, 19:35 and 21:50 every day, with an extra at 14:35 on weekdays. A Regional leaves at 05:08 on weekdays, and the 05:50 AVE also stops at Pontevedra and Santiago from Monday to Saturday. Pontevedra takes 14 to 17 minutes, Santiago 54 to 64 minutes and A Coruña from 1 hour 29 minutes; Ourense takes 1 hour 27 minutes to 1 hour 46 minutes by AVE or Alvia. The last train into Urzáiz arrives at 23:48 from A Coruña.

## Vigo Guixar

Regional trains to Santiago and A Coruña leave Guixar seven times a day, from 06:48 to 20:28, and take about 1 hour 35 minutes to Santiago, so use Urzáiz if you are in a hurry. Regional Exprés trains for Ourense and Ponferrada leave at 08:30 and 13:45 and take about 2 hours 30 minutes to Ourense. The Celta to Porto runs twice a day. Until about April 2027 the first part is a coach, leaving Guixar at 08:58 and 18:05 (Spanish time) and meeting the train at Valença do Minho, which reaches Porto Campanhã at 10:24 and 19:35 Portuguese time, an hour behind Spain. From Porto it leaves at 08:10 and 19:10 Portuguese time, and the coach reaches Guixar at 11:44 and 22:40 Spanish time.

## Works and holidays

Since 7 April 2026, for about a year while Adif rebuilds the line, the Ourense and Ponferrada trains run by coach from Vigo Guixar to Guillarei, and the Celta to Valença do Minho. From 5 to 12 November 2026 Renfe runs coaches between Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña. From 5 to 11 November there is no 14:35 from Urzáiz and no 17:08 or 18:30 Regional from Guixar, and on 7 and 8 November no 06:48 from Guixar.

On 8 December, 25 December, 1 January and 6 January there is no 05:50 AVE, and Madrid trains reach Vigo at 14:11, 19:44 and 22:29. On 24 and 31 December the 17:25 AVE does not run, and the last train from Madrid is the 15:32, which runs as an Avlo on those days and arrives at 19:44. On 25 December and 1 January the first train to Santiago and A Coruña is the 08:00 and there is no 17:40. On 24 and 31 December the last one leaves at 19:35, and the last arrival at Urzáiz is the Alvia from Barcelona at 22:57.

## Tickets

Buy Renfe tickets on renfe.com, in the app, at ticket offices or at machines; sales close 15 minutes before departure and the gate 2 minutes before. Celta tickets are sold by CP online, in the CP app and at CP ticket offices; Porto to Vigo costs €16.75 one way.

## Rail passes and reservations

As of October 2026, Interrail pass holders need a paid reservation on the AVE (€10 in second class) and the Alvia (€6.50 in second class), and on Media Distancia (€4). Regional Exprés costs €4, not always compulsory. The Avlo is not on Interrail's reservation list, so pass holders should take the AVE or Alvia. The Celta to Porto needs a reservation, which is free for pass holders. A One Country Pass for Spain does not cover the Portuguese part of the trip. Slower Regional trains need no reservation.
